Autism-Vaccine Briefing on Capitol Hill

Hello Everyone,

I have spent the last two days doing my darnedest to obtain attendance agreements from my Senators and Members of Congress from the great state of Tennessee, for an autism-vaccine briefing being hosted by Congresswoman Maloney, author Kirby, and Director of the Coalition for SAFE MINDS, Mark Blaxill. The briefing will be held in DC on September 24th at 2:00 PM (210 Cannon House Office Building). Many issues will be discussed (including, but not limited to, state of the art research currently underway at top universities, and possible links between mito dysfunction and autistic regression).

I am pleased to tell you I was successful in my endeavor! The following have agreed to have (or try their best to have) a representative present at the briefing:

Senator Lamar !!! Cleary, director of the Senator's HELP Subcommittee for Children and Families, and handler of "all things special education and autism" for , has agreed to do his best to have someone on hand. This is significant because supported three Bills that protect vaccine manufacturers from liability for Thimerosal and for changing the language in the Combating Autism Act that autism groups worked so hard to get included. Senator has NEVER supported autism in any way, hopefully the information offered in Maloney's briefing will change that.

Senator Bob Corker!!! Ann, from the Senator's office says she will do her best to make sure someone from the office is on hand at this very important briefing! Again, this is significant because Corker has never supported autism in any way. Thankfully, there is a first time for everything!

Congresswoman (she actually goes by Congressman) Marsha Blackburn!!! I was told they will do their best to get someone scheduled to attend. It is important to note Rep. Blackburn has never supported autism in any way; yet is very important because she sits on the House Health Committee that holds jurisdiction over Public Health, research, medicaid and drugs and all Bills that are directed to their committee concerning these issues.

Congressman Lincoln !!! Although the Congressman has a very packed schedule for next week, his staff will make sure to inform him of the briefing, and try to schedule someone to be in attendance. I told the staffer that it would be a good idea for the Congressman to attend, being that he is a member of the Coalition for Autism Research and Education.

My request to you all is to please consider an email or call to your Senators and Members of Congress prior to Wednesday to request representation at the briefing. Just copy and paste the briefing info (see below) into your email and include a personal note that this issue is of the utmost importance to you, or someone you know/love. If you need help, please email - I am happy to assist you in any way.

By requesting attendance at this briefing, you are in no way agreeing to or expressing a belief in a connection between autism and vaccines, just that you think this might be important information for our elected officials to gather.

We have to work together to create change. Having our elected officials armed with the most recent autism research, news, and theories is the best way to ensure change happens.

Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) is hosting a special briefing for Members of Congress and their Staff to update them on recent developments in the vaccine-autism debate.

Kirby, investigative journalist and author of The New York Times bestseller Evidence of Harm, Mercury in Vaccines and the Autism Epidemic - A Medical Controversy, will inform Members and their staff about developments in this debate from science, public policy, politics and law. Mr. Kirby will be joined Mark Blaxill, Director of the Coalition for SAFE MINDS.

Among the issues to be discussed are:

? A recent Vaccine Court case in which the federal government conceded that vaccines induced autism in one girl with an underlying mitochondrial dysfunction.

? Possible links between mitochondrial dysfunction and autistic regression, and information on several ASD children with mitochondrial issues;

? State-of-the- art research underway at top universities on the connection between environmental toxins, mitochondrial function, oxidative stress, glutathione depletion, neuro-inflammation and autistic encephalopathy;

? Research agendas from the CDC and NIH that include investigations into links between vaccines and neuro-immune disorders

? The scope and implications of the autism epidemic. How scientific politics is preventing policy from catching up to the problem.

? Ongoing research into connections between mercury exposure and autism. Why most of what is reported is inaccurate.

? Reframing concerns over the vaccine program: It's not a question of being pro or con vaccines, but rather a question of safety management.

We are asking all of our members to contact their elected representatives and urge them to attend.
