Guest guest
What do you folks make of this? I came across this site while looking for something else. "Flavors" that appear like cheese, but are not cheese, added to foods, in an attempt to pass them off as cheese? WTF? http://www.21food.com/showroom/58751/product/cheese-flavors-for-acid-food-systems.html "This line of flavors is a feasible alternative to using real cheese in acid food systems such as: salad dressings and tomato based products. Save time and money. These flavors disperse in your formulations quickly, but will not melt completely. Small cheese particles add visual appeal while cutting costs of using real cheese." ---------------------------------- If they are not real cheese, what might they be? Just wondering, as we're on the topic of homogeneous and heterogenous mixtures with my science classes. Also, I don't think I like the sounds of this line, from the Cheddar cheese flavor page: "Our Cheddar flavors are produced with ingredients that allow our customers to sell "clean-labeled" products that are authentically cheesy! " http://www.21food.com/showroom/58746/product/Cheddar-cheese-flavors.html ?????, Aasa
Guest guest
Yeah, and now Hershey's decided to mess with its " Milk Chocolate " bar. They removed the cocoa butter which is the key ingredient that gives chocolate its creamy flavor, and they replaced it with cheap vegetable oil. I didn't know about this until (thanks to our recent power outage) we made s'mores around the firepit. When I snuck a piece of plain chocolate, minus the marshmallow and honey graham, I noticed a sort of blandness in both taste and texture. When I mentioned this to my daughter, she said that she heard that the company made some changes to keep the size of the bar the same, while keeping profits up. So, they compromised quality for profit...gee, where have we heard about this happening before???? Kind a p****s me off, but I've switched to eating only very dark, organic chocolate with a higher % of cacao, anyway. Not only tastes better to me, but it's actually very healthy. Most of it is gf/cf, too. These companies just can't leave well enough alone!!!! -Trish > > What do you folks make of this? ....
