Guest guest
Yes definitely. It would seem that the metabolism for a number of people begins working more properly. My mother was having a hard time gaining weight with Parkinson's and she was only 107pounds for over 2 years. Within the first 3 weeks of taking LDN she gained 5 pounds. She also stopped needing naps and her voice is intermittently stronger. Aletha [low dose naltrexone] Weight Is there any correlation between LDN use and weight gain or loss that anyone is aware of? Guest guest
Hi I have been able to convince more than 25 people to try LDN in the last year. In that group, all of whom were pretty sick with a range of illnesses, had a very consistent experience with regards to weight gain: On steroids: LOST weight on LDN No steroids: gained some weight on LDN, particularly if GI- related symptoms or multiple infections. My own experience was that I gained some weight after about a month on the LDN and then have ended up almost two years later at a stable weight less than where I started. Guest guest
Interesting. I only know my own results. I was 135 when I was researching LDN. Started LDN 04/17/03. 11/03 I was 124. 11/04 I was 127, so, stable. 07/05 I was suddenly 114. 03/06 I lost more, was 110. 04/26/06, stopped smoking cigarettes, was down more, 108. 05/06, a month later I was 129. Now, 129-131 range. Not sure LDN's part, but was pretty much 130-140 range prior to LDN. fwiw [low dose naltrexone] Re: Weight HiI have been able to convince more than 25 people to try LDN in the last year. Guest guest
Hello Amand ~ How are you doing???? I have a question, I am alittle confused. Your boyfriend was normal weight, then he gained some to almost obese, then he lost it again, quickly ? How long of a process was that? Is a kilo 2 1/4 lbs? Does he have any more symptoms that he is dealing with? I hope you are feeling good. Let me know more about it and I will answer best I can. Love the kitty on a swing ! Hugs ! Guest guest
Patty, thank you, I just read something about that in this last week. Most of what I have been reading is all about the adrenals, thyroid and just whole endocrin-metabolism arena. I just cant remember. Would you call that muscle wasting? It is so hard to know without knowing other things. ~ I am sorry.......I just dont know........and looking it up, it could be so many things........I believe he should see someone. Guest guest
Crohn's disease - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ~ It almost sounds like he is having some malabsorption problems and the diarrhea contributed to it more. This site explains alot, but I would think he should go see his doctor, and have blood testing to be sure he is not too off on those. He may need to do some dietary adjustments. If he is having malabsorption problems they can take care of that. Keep me posted, and I will keep him in my prayers. Hugs ~ DedeSee what's free at AOL.com. Guest guest
Dede, What I understand to have said is that he gained BODY FAT, not necessarily weight, to the point of obese. Like he lost alot of muscle strength and tone and now has alot of body fat. , I have some clues, but I'm not sure. PattyDGRAHAMA@... wrote: Hello Amand ~ How are you doing???? Guest guest
i agree with the other comment about excercising , some days you do have to force yourself to do it and then you do feel much better . also my local YMCA has arthritic excercise swimming classes. these are great the movement and excercise in a pool gives you flexability without putting stress on your tender joints. do consider looking into it , they work all parts of your body in these clasees including fingers and wrists etc. its really a great form of excercise and since its a class there are other people there and you may also make some new friends brooklyn90278 <brooklyn90278@...> wrote: >> Does anyone else with RA feel too bad to exercise? Guest guest
I'm in a rural area too... There is no pool here either. My parents have one I can use during summer, but I'm out of luck the rest of the time. I don't know how people, especially doctors, say " Just work through the pain. Exercise through the pain. It'll be better later if you keep exercising. " I have news for people, they haven't got the poly RA I have. There is no way to exercise through it. My joints never quit hurting. They never feel better. I've tried the exercising; it's never made it better. Don't mean to rant... I'm on plaquenil, aspirin, and neurotin. Anyone else on these meds? <leslielick777@...> wrote: --- In , " ci_sme " <rileyheart1296@...> wrote: > > Does anyone else with RA feel too bad to exercise? Guest guest
I am right there with you, rileyheart. I've put on about 35 lbs since the onset of symptoms, over the course of about 16 months. It's heartbreaking, isn't it? I had been a heavy girl all my life and was finally in a healthy state, execising and look good (and feeling good about it!). Now, it is really depressing. Esp. since I have no energy to work out, even for a long walk. Sucks. I've started yoga, which I had done a few years back and really enjoyed. While regular yoga (Hatha) can be pretty hard on the body, find a yoga studio that offers kundalini yoga and/or even restorative yoga classes. Both are very forgiving on your body and allow you to use props to support what your own body can't. Kundalini also promotes healing from within and one of it's purposes is to heal and boost the immune system. The good thing about yoga is once you get going with classes, your body will change and you will see the pounds fall off. Plus you'll hopefully build up energy to do other things you enjoy as well. Best of luck to you. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better pen pal. Text or chat with friends inside . Guest guest
I certainly don't exercise when i'm in pain. I eat! but then I feel like I have to be chewing on something - an anxiety thing. So I eat some good things (celery & Peanut butter) and some not so good things (choc chip cookies, licorice) At this time I don't know how much I've gained, but it's just enough to make my jeans tight! > > Does anyone else with RA feel too bad to exercise? Guest guest
I have the exact same problem that you do. Since I found out I had RA, my weight has sky rocketed. The meds that I am on doesn't help matters either. During the summer I found that swimming helped somewhat since it didn't effect my joints as much. I know my rheumatologist and primary get on me about excersising, but when you feel lousy, you feel lousy. Your not the only one. > > Does anyone else with RA feel too bad to exercise? Guest guest
I have found this group extremely helpfull. People here understand what your going through and it's refreshing to know that others here support you and offer advice. My husband tells me he understands, but he doesn't have RA or fibro and it's hard for him to understand some days you can't take a shower and have trouble dressing yourself. Guest guest
If you are any type of steriod, you will gain weight. I have been on prednisone for 6 years, I have gone from 145 lbs to 210. I am now coming off the prednisone and I am starting to drop the weight. I do exercise at least 3 times a week. Even if it is just walking, walking is good for you. If you get a dog it makes the walking even more easier. Eat smaller portions and really watch what you eat, sugar is and soda is so bad for you. Guest guest
I also have found this group supportive. Each day is a trial for me as the pain makes doing everything difficult. My husband understands but many times I feel as if I am a burden to him. I try not to think about the RA and try to function as best as possible. But when I do think about it and the damage it has brought on, I start to feel sorry for myself and have a good cry. After that, I am good for a week or more and continue to do the best I can. There are many adjustments which I have had to make such as I can't put my makeup on with my right hand anymore as my elbow won't bend that far so I have to use my left hand; it is difficult to put on socks; it is difficult to shower each day; it is easier to stay home so I don't have to get dressed to go out because it is painful to get dressed; it is difficult to work in the kitchen because things are heavy or I am unable to open jars or cans; and so forth. Many things I have been able to adjust to and work around as most of you have had to do because life goes on. I sometimes think about the children who have RA - they must suffer so much also. There is not much mentioned about RA in the real world - not like some things such as breast cancer, MS, or other diseases. I wonder if there is any support for finding a cure for RA as there other medical problems. Whew, that was a vent but I just wanted to thank all of you for sharing problems, hopes, ideas and support. Perhaps someday a cure will be found. --- <man_u8@...> wrote: > I have found this group extremely helpfull. Guest guest
can i just say that feeling sorry for yourself must be allowed for people with RA! it's a terrible disease. No one should live with such constant and horrible pain all the time like we do. And people really don't understand. Probably they think we are just complaining. we are thinking about leaving NY after 14 years here. i hear that warm and dry weather really help RA. is that really true? because all the places that we are interested in are cold or wet or both. thanks and hang in there everyone! lixuan
Guest guest
Brooklyn90278, I know exactly what you are talking about. I have the same problem. It's like a new inflammation comes to my attention when I make up my mind to start exercising. This is so frustrating. I don't want to be this way. The heels on my feet hurt all the time now. I have high chlorestrol and blood pressure. I am taking medicine for each. Not to mention all the other medicines I take that have caused me to gain weight. I have gained 50 lbs in the last 2 years due to medicine. I think the biologics make us feel more tired just being on them. There are days I pray I can wake up from my nap and get things cleaned around the house. I don't have an answer for you, but if I find one, I'll let you know. Thanks! Guest guest
You have to take it one day at a time. I'm 30 and I am in the process of getting on SSDI because I can't hold down a job anymore. Taking a shower is hard for me, (washing my hair is the worst), doing laundry, cooking etc. I do feel like I am a huge burden on my husband. He's younger then me and I feel that he should be with someone who can do things w/ him like hike and play sports. We've only been married 4 years and we have the rest of our lives together. He says he's in it for the long haul and will help me and take care of me on my best days and my worst days. I think the part of my depression from my RA/fibro. You just have to take it day by day. On my good days, I can go for a walk and I try to take advantage of it. > > > > > > > > Does anyone else with RA feel too bad to > > exercise?
