Guest guest
Hey group, Good thread!! I very much want to reactivate the activist/lobbyist I once was. This dang sickness has taken more of my brain away than I like to think. I have mostly gotten my house cleaned up, and might even be giving Carl a call in the next day or so, now that I have his book. I know some of us are just too sick to have any extra brain or body energy to write letters. I have felt that way for oh too long. I have a unique background that could offer our group some advocacy skills, if/when I am a little better. In my senior year of high school, I did my science project AT the CDC with my aunt who worked there. Around the same time, I was also a member of a PAC (Political Action Committee) for Sierra Club and lobbied for them a little. Later, I attended a moldy college, and began teaching in moldy schools. I felt my cognitive skills slipping, and always thought I was as smart as the smart kids, but always fell a little under the mark. I even taught vocal sight-reading to high school and middle school students, and had pretty good " tuning " inside my head for listening to and making in-tune sounds. Almost twenty years of marriage, five children, history geography and music teaching career behind me, I find myself with Double Trouble Mold Susceptible Genes (a la Shoemaker), some pretty crumby lab numbers to go with, and clearing up a mold problem in my home. Some days, I can't even get through correctly preparing a new recipe. My manifesto for change I wrote to some " moldy " friends included: My goals for the next five years are: 1. Change building codes to prevent mold growth problems in A/C vents 2. Change ICD-9 codes to include mold illness as an umbrella diagnosis 3. Create a SHORT book for doctors - a technical and medical manual, NOT full of anecdotal or self-righteous content. 4. Create a SHORT book for patients - DIY get better stuff - Allopathic, alternative, cutting edge, au naturel, Trad. Chinese Med, etc. 5. Create easy to understand methods for HVAC guys to be the first line of defense in looking for problems (Carl is doing this stuff already I think). 6. Change Quest and Labcorp codes to create a " Shoemaker Screen " and a " Shoemaker Panel " 7. To personally be a patient advocate, and meet with corporate representatives to demonstrate how much money they could save in cutting to the chase of a quick diagnosis of any of the diagnoses under the EI umbrella. I want them to SEE the face of the patient on their level in their office. 7. Explore LDN as an immune therapy for mold injured patients, including children. 8. Continue to pressure the government - all branches - with education and advocacy. Having gone to my doctor, and with us progressing along on the Shoemaker protocol, I know the ground was broken by others before me. Otherwise, my current treatment would not be possible so close to home. I really want to do something, but right now, I am researching and advocating for my own small piece of wellness, however big that may be. If for now, I can help a couple of friends along the way, so much the better. Take care, Jolly () > > It's building relationships and learning the ropes. Without that we > are just flailing away.
