My son developed pronounced high arches and hammer toes around the time he

turned 8 years old (early this year). In addition, his left foot always

naturally curved inward, and pointing down. He walked " funny " holding his left

hand up in the air as if he was in a wading pool. He could not stand straight

and still unless he leaned against a wall.

Whilesitting down, he'd always fold his legs (both knees facing forward) and sit

on top of them. On little hiking trips, he'd always get tired after about 5

minutes or so. Both his wrists are amazingly flexible but look normal.

As a little boy, he fell down the stairs a whole lot more than his sibling. He

looked pale (for his brown skin) which made many people ask whether he was

anaemic (blood test result was normal). Both his legs are skinny below the

knees.

We remember him complaining about pain in his legs when he was about 6. We

attributed that to normal growth pains. As parents, we never really put all of

these together since as far as we can tell, no one on either side of his family

ever showed CMT symptoms, including us so far.
