Guest guest
Barbara, Mold assessment or mold remediation? Not much on mold assessment procedures or interpretation other than square footage of visible mold growth. Remediation procedures is covered quite well in the ANSI-IICRC S520 " Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Mold Remediation. " However, it is quite expensive at $130. You can get the general principals from EPA's Mold Remediation in Schools and Commercial Buildings. Free download at: http://www.epa.gov/mold/mold_remediation.html Other good publications on the same site include a video tutorial. NYC Dept of Health has their guidelines, also free, at: http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/epi/moldrpt1.shtml Some on this group prefer the California guidelines at: http://www.library.ca.gov/crb/01/notes/v8n1.pdf Fundamental principles of all is to identify and stop the water source, remove the mold growth without spreading it around the rest of the building, clean contents and structure of the dry, distributed spores and hyphal fragments. Important point: Killing the mold is a waste of time and money, except for the companies increasing their profit by selling the unnecessary chemicals. Killing mold won't stop the reactivity. Removing it does. And if it's removed then there is nothing left to kill. The devil is in the details, as they say, and the details can sometimes be difficult to decern and deal with.
