The College is proud to honor Emil J. Bardana Jr., MD,

FACAAI, as this year’s recipient of the ACAAI Gold

Headed Cane Award. The award will be presented

during the Convocation scheduled 9:30 am, Saturday, in

Hall A of the Convention Center.

The ACAAI Gold Headed Cane Award is presented

annually to an allergist who has demonstrated the

highest standards of scientific excellence and integrity

while serving as a Fellow of the College for at least 20

years. It is designed to serve as an inspiration to younger

doctors and encourage them in their family, social, civil,

religious and professional lives. Past winners include

Harold S. , MD, FACAAI; ph A. Bellanti, MD,

FACAAI; J. O’Connell, MD, FACAAI; Elliot F. Ellis,

MD, FACAAI; C. Selner, MD, FACAAI; L.

Lieberman, MD, FACAAI; Betty B. Wray, MD,

FACAAI; and W. son, MD, FACAAI.

Dr. Bardana is professor of medicine in the

Division of Allergy and Clinical Immunology

at the Oregon Health and Science University

in Portland, Oregon.

He is a past president of ACAAI and also served as

president of the Foundation of ACAAI. He was the

founding editor of AllergyWatch and launched

ImmunologyWatch. He chaired numerous College

committees and is currently serving on the Acorn

Committee, Past President’s Committee and

Occupational Health Committee. Dr. Bardana was

honored with the 1992 Distinguished Fellow Award and

was selected to present the 2002 A. Chapman

Living Lecture and the 2009 A. Chapman Memorial

Lecture. He also was selected to give the 1996

Stanislaus Jaros Lecture, 1991 Bela Schick Lecture

and was awarded a Master in Allergy in 1990.

He is the author or co-author of more

than 200 scientific publications in areas

of Allergy/Immunology and has served on

the editorial boards of the ls of Allergy,

Asthma and Immunology, 1989-93 and 1999-2003, and

the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 1993-98.

Dr. Bardana was on the ABAI Board of Directors, served

as its secretary and its representative on the American

Board of Medical Specialties. He chaired the Residency

Review Committee (ACGME) for Allergy/Immunology. He

served as governor for Oregon of the ACP and ACCP. He

served as president of the Western Society of Allergy

and Immunology, the Oregon Society of Allergy and

Immunology and the Oregon Thoracic Society
