Guest guest
Hi, Dan! Can you get Chemet (DMSA) in China? If you can get it, can you do a DDI urine challenge test? I am no expert as to which particular test is best for Arsenic, Lead, Titanium and Mercury, but I do know that a urine challenge test could be helpful. What about blood levels? Have you done any yet? [ ] Looking for help I am the mother of a 5y-8month old autistic boy. My son had very serious sleeping problem from 16 days old to 2.5 year olds. He stayed up very late and burst out crying fm sleep almost every night. His sleep has always been light and he is very easy to be awakened, even by the noise of opening and closing of the door of next room. After 2.5, he can sleep the whole night most of the time, although he still has difficulty in falling asleep up to now. He had severe milk vomiting problem, but he loved milk. His eyes did not follow moving objects or our hand moving before his eyes at 20 days old. But all these problems have been improving. He was diagnosed atypical autism at 3. The 1st hair element test came before that. But I did not make up my mind to chelate because of different opinions of doctors. I entered this website only yesterday. Maybe I¡¯ve lost 2.5 years time. I¡¯d like to have yr comments and advice (especially those from Andy Cutler and Dr. Amy, if possible)on the following DDI hair test reports of my son. I just do not understand why my son¡¯s hair has such high levels of so many heavy metals? Is it possible that the water and shampoo to wash the hair will affect the result of hair test? One HK doctor suggested chelation by DMSA twice a day. I had not found a doctor here in Beijing, China, who agrees with the opinion of the HK doctor, for my son¡¯s blood and urine test did not show any heavy metals at all. When I read the FAQ of the website yesterday, I tended to believe that my son is heavy metals poisoned , but does not has impaired mineral transport. All these 3 reports do not meet any one criterion of the ¡°counting rule¡±. Is it the case that criterion of counting rule will not meet if mineral transport is not impaired? I can not get much help from doctors here. I think maybe we should start chelation 2.5 years ago. I¡¯m eager to hear yr comments. If it is sure of heavy metal poisoning and necessary to chelate, we will have to see the HK doctor frequently. Is it dangerous to do chelation by ourselves according to the protocol? Thanks a lot in advance for any comments and advice. She did at one time, very long ago-- a couple of years ago or more. > I just do not understand why my son¡¯s hair > has > such high levels of so many heavy metals? well, I don't know if this will really " help " , but many kids with autism and autism-related disorders have " so many " high metals, like your son. It seems to be pretty common. > Is it possible that the > water and shampoo to wash the hair will affect the result of hair > test? I think it is theoretically possible, IF the shampoo has the specific metal in it. Which is possible, but gee I hope not. One of the companies that I did a hair test through said in the instructions to ONLY use a very simple shampoo for 3 days prior to testing. (I did this for both of my hair tests.) I have heard questions about specific shampoos. If there are several high metals I don't think that could be from shampoo...... As for water, well, I'll just say I don't think so. > One HK doctor suggested chelation by DMSA twice a day. I had > not found a doctor here in Beijing, China, who agrees with the > opinion of the HK doctor, for my son¡¯s blood and urine test did > not > show any heavy metals at all. Well, the blood and urine test will ONLY show mercury if there is VERY RECENT exposure to mercury. So this thinking does not make sense to me. > When I read the FAQ of the website > yesterday, I tended to believe that my son is heavy metals poisoned , > but does not has impaired mineral transport. All these 3 reports do > not meet any one criterion of the ¡°counting rule¡±. Is it the > case > that criterion of counting rule will not meet if mineral transport is > not impaired? The counting rules are looking for impaired mineral transport. Someone with normal mineral transport should " fail " all 3 tests. > I can not get much help from doctors here. well, while that is frustrating, it is not so unusual...... for anywhere! > I think maybe we should > start chelation 2.5 years ago. I¡¯m eager to hear yr comments. If > it > is sure of heavy metal poisoning and necessary to chelate, we will > have to see the HK doctor frequently. Is it dangerous to do chelation > by ourselves according to the protocol? Chelation has risks no matter how you do it. DMSA has risks and side effects. Maybe your doctor there can help you monitor your child, such as testing his liver before you begin, and testing immune system as you go along? The idea I have is that you want to minimize the risks. I personally think that Andy's protocol is the safest protocol, but that does NOT mean that there are not risks. Then again, doing nothing also has risks---- such as the risk that he will not improve. That is a big risk. And being metal toxic has many health risks, as you probably know! Okay, now I am looking at your hair tests. I want to point out that all 3 tests show mercury in " yellow " . This makes me think that maybe there is a problem with mercury but not mineral transport. (Note in the counting rules file that it says SOME people will have HIGH mercury and normal mineral transport). His mercury is not CLEARLY high (red)-- but rather it is yellow. DMSA is a good chelator of lead and mercury. So if you use DMSA for the lead (VERY HIGH!) then this will also remove mercury at the same time (from the body but not brain). ALA is a good chelator for arsenic and mercury. So, again, if you use this for arsenic it will also remove mercury.] By the way, it takes quite a long time to remove lead, as it is stored in bones. As you remove some, more will be distributed into the body..... and then you can remove more. And so on. What I am saying is that it may not be so critical about the mercury...... If you use DMSA and ALA this will help with mercury, arsenic and lead. I hope this response is some help, and please ask questions if something I have said is not clear. best wishes, Moria > Thanks a lot in advance for any comments and advice. > Dan > > > DDI REPORT OF I started chelating with ALA and I am sure my son was deficient in many minerals because I had not been able to find a mineral supplement that he tolerated. After several rounds of ALA, he finally began tolerating supplements. I don't know if what I did by chelating was *safe*, but my son is doing just fine. Shall minmeral and vitamin supplements be > taken on both " on " and " off " periods? I saw a difference when I gave the minerals only on off days, my kids did better that way than when I gave them every day. I did give vitamins every day tho. Kirkman's requires that you are under a doctor's care, but does not require a prescription. You will have to ask them about the exact requirements and how they would apply to you. You can also read here for other possible sources of DMSA: /files/HOW_TO_buy_DMSA VRP or the other companies listed may also be able to sell to you (see file).... best wishes, Moria
Guest guest
Hello Dan, > Thanks a lot for Moria, Dana and for yr patience to read my > long post and for yr kindness to answer. you're welcome. > I think I should not lose > time any more. I agree. I think you should take care and take as much time as you feel you need to in order to understand things. But not longer. Of course, it is YOUR judgement that will decide what to do, no one else. > Do you think it is necessary for us to take another > hair test by DDI(for the latest was on 2/5/2001) I do not think so. You already had 3 that showed similar highs, didn't you? (I am not sure if I remember right.) > and flood test for > minerals? I do not know what this is > If there is deficiency in any minerals, it is not safe to > do chelation. am I right? With a child who is heavy metal toxic, you are very likely to have deficiencies of minerals!! I would suggest that you consider using supplements while you chelate. I am not good with telling about which supplements. You may want to read here: /files/ANDY_INDEX If you look in the section about supplements, there are 3 or 4 items that are about " recommended supplements during chelation " . These might be one place to start in thinking about this. Or you could read in the Kirkman's catalog. Or other ways. But, my idea is to consider using supplements AND chelating, both at the same time. > Shall minmeral and vitamin supplements be > taken on both " on " and " off " periods? Andy says to use the same supplements every day. I thought Dana's comment was also interesting that her kids do better (or did better) with minerals on off days only. Personal observation of your own child is always important too. best wishes, Moria
Guest guest
Hello Dan, > I have just read yr posting of July 28, as I've been away for 10 days. okay, well, I think maybe the post you mean is 53469. I am including the part I think you are (maybe) referring to-- it is at the bottom of this post. I am not sure. > Do you mean I should consider chelation right now ignoring the > defficiency of minerals like Zinc,Ca,Mn,Fe and copper? I do NOT mean that you should " ignore " deficiencies. I mean that you should consider supplementing AND chelating. The main point I was trying to make is that children who are mercury toxic are usually going to have LOTS of mineral imbalances. It is good to supplement, but you probably will not be able to get everything balanced as long as the child is metal toxic. I say this because of what I have heard about how mercury poisoning causes mineral imbalances. Supplements can help a lot in the mean time. > My son has > been on supplements since March. but still defficient in minerals. > His mineral supplement is only from Nu-thera, besides Ca-Mg from > Nutrilite(210mg Ca and 105mg Mg per tablet x 3times a day). I guess > it is not enough. Maybe I should give him more concentrated mineral > supplements? What's yr suggestion about the mineral supplements? I am sorry, I don't know. I don't really keep track of all the supplements and amounts. My general suggestion would be to go to " ANDY_INDEX " and read the posts about what supplements to give during chelation. This would be general advice of course. Your child may need other things, but this might give you some ideas: /files/ANDY_INDEX First go to the section about supplements and food. Then look for the items about suggested supplements during chelation. I think there are 3 or 4 posts. > By the way I made a typing mistake in my post last time. " flood " > should be " blood " . oh-- okay, I see that now. best wishes, Moria ================================================================= from /message/53469 : > If there is deficiency in any minerals, it is not safe to > do chelation.
Guest guest
Today I was introduced to a mom and her child who has been diagnosed with Cohen Syndrom. This mom is starting to learn about the vaccine issue and looking into some of this (just starting). I met her child and he definately has a lot of autistic tendencies although the professionals say he has a proven genetic problem. Does anyone have any information regarding this one I could share with her. She did just have an OAT done and she said most of it was normal - little high in the yeast area. Guest guest
Hey there fellow! Hang in there! I,myself am on medicaid and so far it pretty much hasn't covered anything! I think that it severely depends on which state you are in. I know that you can get ahold of the maker of whatever drug you need and there is a couple of programs like prescription partners, etc... You might be able to get some information on prescription help at your local senior center. Good luck!!! Kim
Guest guest
Hi napaflykillerdude: And thanks for keeping our grapes free of pests! Antibiotics is a very good option, and whether RA is caused by a specific bacterial infection, or even multiple infections, many have had great success with these agents. My orientation is a bit different, since I do not have RA, but a type of rheumatoid arthritis called ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Antibiotics were a godsend for me, and the work of Professor Ebringer ( http://www.kcl.ac.uk/kis/schools/life_sciences/life_sci/ebringerR.html ), who may have found some connection between RA and Proteus mirabilis following UTI in susceptible individuals (HLA DR1-DR4). There are dietary methods, also, found on Dr. Mercola's site (www.mercola.com). Thank YOU, for caring for one of our fellow sufferers; few people really understand. Best to you both and each, rheumatic LOOKING FOR HELP HELLO, MY NAME IS STEVE AND MY PARTNER HAS RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS. Guest guest
Hi, Alane: Yes, I did treat the Klebsiella pneumoniae in TWO ways: It was in fact the combination of diet (total starch exclusion) and antibiotics (a protocol I developed, based upon some input from researchers and my own experiences). There is an impressive history of treating inflammation in general, and rheumatic arthritides in particular, by eliminating starch, but the book by Giraud is one of the best (A Doctor's Proven New Home Cure for Arthritis), although he did not have the reason, he was a keen observer. We are on the www.kickas.org site and many people with RA have had good results on Carol Sinclair's NSD (No Starch Diet; " The New IBS Low Starch Diet " with foreword by Ebringer available via amazon-UK--this book has many recipes and the exact explanation for AS.) It never hurts to answer questions over--there are many new people on the list! CRP will be elevated in about 65% of AS cases and RF will not be. A slightly fewer number of people will have elevated sed rate (and I do not agree with TYPICAL lab numbers; ANYONE and ANY gender with ESR >10 has an inflammatory condition) AS typically manifests first as sciatica, then as 'lumbago' and sacroiliitis, but women, especially, skip the typical stages and can have back pain and no fusion for many years; AS was considered a man's disease, but better criteria have been recently developed (albeit still needs work!). Anyone with active inflammation should avoid refined starches, too much sugar, too many arachidonic acid precursors like egg yolks, red meat, and cheese (but egg yolks, in particular, are at other times VERY important food). Avoid all deep fried foods and all breaded foods and Ebringer's 'four major poisons:' Bread, cake, pasta, and potatoes. Take CONTROL; eat to live and LIVE in fullness (without pain), Best to All, PS: SORRY. (should have answered primary question...there are many distractions) The Klebsiella is more related to AS than to RA, HOWEVER, I personally believe that once we become a substrate for one pathogen we are an easier target for MYRIAD such agents. Understand that we walk around with a sewer (intestines) and of the 300 or so bacteria (and 3000 viruses and too many fungi, yeasts, etc), at least 12 have been identified as causing REACTIVE arthritides. That is just what THEY know so far. We are an EDGE EFFECT where pathogens normally considered non-virulent actually cause BIG TROUBLE. AS is KRA (Klebsiella Reactive Arthritis) and RA (might be) PRA; proteus reactive arthritis; not to dismiss the chance for a primary or secondary mycoplasm infection. rheumatic LOOKING FOR HELP > > > HELLO, MY NAME IS STEVE AND MY PARTNER HAS RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS. Guest guest
You've certainly come to the right place -for information, support etc... I have heard that three year old benchmark before but I totally disagree, only my opinion. I took my daughter at 26 months to a ped. neuro. who without a doubt dx'd her with moderate / severe verbal apraxia. I suggest scheduling an appt. as soon as you can get one with either a ped. neuro or a developmental ped..You might try asking those on this list for any recomendations...there is a wealth of information & experience here. Guest guest
As many of you know I've been sick for quite some time now. I lost my apartment and had to move back to my parents house. I found a doctor to treat me, but when I was not making the progress he expected, he suggested that I do a specific environmental testing of the house and that test that showed that there was an issue with the house. My family and I have done everything in our power to correct the situation but it has not been enough... Yesterday I received the results from a recent series of bloodwork and it indicates that I am still reacting to the house... I need to move so that I can get better. I need to find an inexpensive apartment (or room) to rent hopefully in the Philly area that has not had any water intrusion... If you know of any place that might suit me needs please contact me... And if you don't, maybe you could mention my needs to others who maybe in the position to help me I'd really appreciate it. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Guest guest
Hi Edna, I am so sorry to read about your experiences! As a grandmother myself, I can imagine how heartbreaking this is for you. Do you know if the school has done any data collection and if not would be willing to do so? This would entail someone ( best if not the teacher) recording events that take place prior to his behavior (antecedent), the behavior itself and immediately after the behavior (consequences). This is known as an ABC recording and it helps to identify patterns of behavior. This may help identify the "function " of the behavior ie: Is he behaving in a certain way for attention? Is it to "escape a task? Is it because he is trying to gain access to something? Another form of data collection is called a scatterplot- It is very simple to fill out. The observer just records with a tally mark whether the behavior occured in a specific time period. Again, one would look for patterns. For example , Let's say the behavior takes place most often on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9:30-10:15. Now we could look at what is going on during that time period that may be "pushing his buttons" Where is he during this time? Who else is in the environment? What demands are being placed? ..... Once a function of behavior has been established then a behavior plan can be set up to address the behavior. Google "ABC recording" and "scatterplot" You should be able to locate a sample that you can print out to bring to the school. If you have a problem, get back to me and I will post as an attachment. It is important to know that the same behavior can serve multiple functions For example, Let's say during school assemblies has a history of yelling. Could it be that the noise level in the room is too loud thereby causing a sensory issue for ? Maybe just wants his classmates to pay attention to him. may not like the concert and just wants to leave. Same behavior but the "reasons' for the behavior would dictate different responses from those working with . Good luck with your quest to find appropriate interventions for your grandson! Guest guest
I don't have personal experience with the school problems that you are having, but it sounds like the school district is a disaster. You need a special education lawyer, and I would seriously consider going to the press with your story (might be a good way to get a lawyer to help you pro bono if you can't afford one). The way your grandson is being treated is outrageous, and I bet if you get it into the newspapers and on your local tv stations, they will be forced to become accountable for their actions - not only for your family, but for all the others in the district who are probably being treated just as badly. So sorry you and your grandson are going through this. Best of luck, Bridget > > I'm looking for help for my grandson. He is 10 years old. Guest guest
You need to find out how to get an advocate in Ohio. In doing a quick search for you I found The Ability Centerand they have a website. It is www.abilitycenter.org . Also, there is Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities. I don't see a website for them. We are currently still fighting our school to get our son (age 9) back into school full time. When we got our advocate they seemed to take us a bit more seriously and were more willing to work with us. There are also attorneys out there that can help you. You DON'T have to put your grandson in the school that they are suggesting. They told us last year that our son had to go to a residential center that was an hour and a half away. We told them NO WAY and got an advocate and have fought them ever since, but our son is back to his regualar school with a full time aide. It's only a half day, but we're working toward more. If you want any more info about our story or more suggestions just let me know. Good luck! Beth ( ) looking for help I'm looking for help for my grandson. He is 10 years old. Guest guest
Is he a behavior problem, such as hitting others? Usually AS kids suffer in silence and schools try to ignore their issues since they are not bothering others. It seems unusual that an AS child would be placed out of district at such a young age. I am just surprised that a young child has been placed in so many setting if he is not having outbursts at school. Tell us more about his issues. If he is quiet and compliant why is he not mainstreamed? What does he tell you about school. I had a good sense of what the issues are without seeing the school. I have hired a behaviorist to observe my daughter the issues were not surprising to me, she didn't look at the teacher, she was always last in what she was doing, disengaged from her peers often. Difficult to transition at school and home. I also teach her religion class and I can see exactly what she does. Tell us about what you see his issues are.
