Guest guest
Hi, I am looking to buy a dehumidifier to reduce moisture in my Berkeley, Ca home during the rainy season which is fast approaching. The dehumidifier will located in my room which is 10 X 12 feet large. I would love a unit that is on the smaller side and quiet. Any suggestions? Thanks! Mandy. Guest guest
Mandy, Whatever DH you buy, you must be able to secure a MERV 8 filter (such as Web Products) that filters ALL the air coming in or you will get mold on the coil. (Check out the DH photos at the NAFTA presentation on my home page.) This is the problem with every DH I have seen, except for the Therma-Stor models which are very expensive and probably too large for your room; they will heat the room too much, soo see if you can find a portable AC that can also be used as a DH and can have a MERV- 8 filter securely attached, with no bypass. Good luck. (BTW, there is enough bypass on the two-inch media filter on the Therma-Stor Santa Fe to cause dust and mold build up inside (after 10 years of continuous operation!), so you have to tape around the filter to stop the bypass.)
