My 5yr old son Ethan, on the spectru, doing GFCFSFEFPF,on some simple

supplements, and are pursuing further testing/biomed...

Has had a fever for the past 2 days (this is day 2).

He has no other 'symptoms' as far as runny nose/sore throat/URI..says

his ears do not hurt....

I am boggled. Normally we would 'ride it out' however there are a

few things that I am questioning. We have given him Motrin a few

times, he will sleep for a few hours, then be a little more 'perky'

and get up and play for an hour or so, nibble on food, then when the

Motrin wears off, about 6 hours almost 'on the nose' he is back to

his high fever, listless state. He has these 'sick eyes' which I

have only seen twice before. The only 2 other times I saw these eyes

where when he was 6 months old and had a high fever, no explanation

(other than his 6 month shots the day before) and a tiny 'little bit

of a red ear' which the ER doc gave us antibiotics and sent us

home...then again the fall of 2006 when he had a cold that went to

full fledge pneumonia within 12 hours, and he got these sick 'eyes'

and listless like this right before we took him into the ER, ended up

staying for 5 nights with pneumonia with a partially collapsed lung...

That is all prior to the DAN stuff we have been doing, and since we

started bio med he hasnt needed his asthma/allergie meds at all, and

a normal cold is 'normal' for him instead of going on for weeks (very

good change!)..

Here are the things that make me question 'riding it out':

1. We visited a petting zoo/pumpkin farm on WEds with his class, they

were able to pick up chickens, ducks, and even kitties, he got to pet

pigs, a turkey, a donkey. all sorts of animals, and actually it was

the MOST fun I had ever seen him have, he was so brave, normally he

doesnt want to go near any animal..but he was very 'free' it was

awesome!....I was sure to watch him like a HAWK about not putting his

hands in his mouth and washed his hands thru out the day, however,

now I cant help but think about 'what if i missed something'...from

what I have read most bacterial things from petting farms/zoos are

diarehha related??? I called the on call doc and he told me its

probably 'coincedence' however, being a doc that doesnt 'know' us,

and a 'reg' doc, I think you guys here probably know more!

2. No other symptoms. the on call doc said that typically with fevers

with kids that they 'normally' see either ear/throat/chest things or

a combo of them, that he may not feel the pain from those yet, but he

may be getting something'.....not too comforting given the way he

looks, with the listlessness and the 'sick' eyes I have only seen

twice, although he has been 'sick' before....

3. He says his back hurts. Now, he has commonly used that before,

since I have a really bad back, he has sometimes said 'oh my back

hurts' in an effort to not go to school/go somewhere he might not

want to do..and when we ask where it hurts, he cant point...so he has

used it as an echohalic (sp?) attention grabber before...

Today he said his back hurts, and when I asked him to point, he

pointed to his lower left abdomen. He hasnt gone poo yesterday or

today, however he hasnt eaten tons either.

So, anyone, please lend your opinon...of course, if he turns for the

worse, nothing breathing properly, or loses coloring, or becomes

unresponsive, off to the hospital I go...however, if we can avoid

going and getting even sicker from the ER I would prefer that...of

course.

So, opinons on what to look for? Treatments to make him more

comfortable (We did a bath last night, and have been doing motrin

every 6 hours, but I am looking for some natural things to do as

well)...and also IF we do end up going to the ER, any

suggestions/advice to keeping things in control, and not letting us

be pushed around?

Anyone else experienced an unexplained fever like this?

Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

THANKS!

Angie,

If he has only been sick for 2 days-I wouldn't worry. There are lots of viruses to be caught. The virus and fever will make him feel listless and lose his appetite. Be sure to get lots of liquids down him. There are viruses with nothing else to note except a fever-which means he is fighting it. Feel lucky-my grandson never gets sick and I always hope he'll catch something-which is perfectly normal. You might want to give it one more day before getting him checked out. Hope he feels better.

I hope that Ethan has nothing serious. It may be just one of those "flu-like" illnesses. When I had the flu about 12 years ago, it started out as a fever with no other symptoms, other than swollen lymph nodes/glands. The muscle aches and pains came several days later, and lasted for several weeks. When one of my sons was a baby, he came down with a high fever with no other apparent symptoms, and our pediatrician rushed him to the hospital because that could be a sign of a uretal reflux problem, which can lead to kidney damage if not treated properly or in time. Kidney problems can also cause backaches. Best to get it checked out.P.S., Your son is BRAVE if he petted a turkey..., those guys can be downright dangerous, when they're not on your dinner plate, already cooked. When I took my class to Pioneer Village, here in Toronto a number of years ago, one of

the staff there told me that turkeys can easily kill a human, and that they attack from the back. Upon hearing that, I made sure all of the kids kept their hands out of the turkey pen. P.P.S. My sister came across an amazing sight some years ago, where she lives out in a small hamlet north of Toronto. She was getting ready to take her dog out for a walk, when they heard this noise, and the dog looked too afraid to go out all of a sudden. My sister could see dozens of wild turkeys running up the road by her house towards the fields directly to the north. She went out, without the dog, and went over to the field to see what was happening. She counted at least 80 wild turkeys there, before she gave up counting and returned home. Some of them looked a bit intimidating and she did not want to hang around for too long. That must have been something to see/experience, though!Subject: Unexplained Fever? To: EOHarm Received: Sunday, November 2, 2008, 8:50 PM

Hi

I don't know where you are from but I am in York PA.... Two of my children have had the same thing in the last week. My "normal" three year old daughter had a very high fever for 24 hours that vanished as quick as it came. Now my 6 yr old Autistic son has it... I think it may just be some wierd bug going around. I don't know, i'm not a doctor but I believe in following your gut... If you think it is more than that then I would listen to what you feel and go from there. In most cases a mother's instinct is correct. If you do take him to the ER just know that you will be there for awhile :)

The last time I took my son to the ER because he was crying after a fall, they sent me home, I came back 2 days later and waited in the waiting room for 5 hours until I went up and told them I was leaving and would go to my doctor in the morning.... they figured out he had a broken leg.... then they drilled me for 2 hours for child abuse.

I think you just have to be persistent and not let them tell you what's best. I get a vaccine lecture everytime I take one of my children to the doctor and we just say no thank you and move on,lol

Hope this helps... Sorry I rambled :)

Angie,

Did the Doctor check for

sacki? White dots at the back of the throat? Sometimes the fever

comes out 1st and the bumps show up a couple of days later. This virus

kicked my kids butts!! 2 weeks. Watch the listlessness to make sure

it doesn't look like dehydration, you would want to go to ER if he's dehydrated.

I couldn't get anything in my kids with the coxsacki.

Every time we go to a petting zoo CJ

catches something. Last year it was cryptosporidium. However, those

symptoms are vomiting and diarrhea.

Good luck! -

PS. Fever with no other symptoms can also be a urinary

tract infection. Boys can get them.

except a fever-which means he is fighting it. Feel lucky-my grandson never

gets sick and I always hope he'll catch something-which is perfectly normal.

You might want to give it one more day before getting him checked out. Hope

he feels better.

My 5yr old son Ethan, on the

spectru, doing GFCFSFEFPF,on some simple

supplements, and are pursuing further testing/biomed. ..

Has had a fever for the past 2 days (this is day 2).

He has no other 'symptoms' as far as runny nose/sore throat/URI.. says

his ears do not hurt....

1. We visited a petting zoo/pumpkin farm on WEds with his class, they

were able to pick up chickens, ducks, and even kitties, he got to pet

pigs, a turkey, a donkey. all sorts of animals, and actually it was

the MOST fun I had ever seen him have, he was so brave, normally he

doesnt want to go near any animal..but he was very 'free' it was

awesome!.... I was sure to watch him like a HAWK about not putting his

hands in his mouth and washed his hands thru out the day, however,

now I cant help but think about 'what if i missed something'.. .from

what I have read most bacterial things from petting farms/zoos are

diarehha related??? I called the on call doc and he told me its

probably 'coincedence' however, being a doc that doesnt 'know' us,

and a 'reg' doc, I think you guys here probably know more!

2. No other symptoms. the on call doc said that typically with fevers

with kids that they 'normally' see either ear/throat/chest things or

a combo of them, that he may not feel the pain from those yet, but he

may be getting something'.. ...not too comforting given the way he

looks, with the listlessness and the 'sick' eyes I have only seen

twice, although he has been 'sick' before....

Treatments to make him more

comfortable (We did a bath last night, and have been doing motrin

every 6 hours, but I am looking for some natural things to do as

well)...and also IF we do end up going to the ER, any

suggestions/ advice to keeping things in control, and not letting us

be pushed around?

Anyone else experienced an unexplained fever like this?

Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

THANKS!

Angie

I give my son extra Vitamin C when he’s sick. Also, like someone said, lots of fluids. I only give him meds (not tylenol) if he goes higher than 103* or stops eating for longer than a day. But, that is me. I know, it’s scary when you don’t know what is wrong.

3. He says his back hurts .. Today he said his back hurts, and when I asked him to point, he pointed to his lower left abdomen. A long shot here - does he have adrenal issues? Back pain in that region (as well as upper back around the shoulder blades - perhaps the 2 FM points there) are a sign of low cortisol for me. Bad constipation coupled with an "urge to go" (bowel movement go.. happened twice) is another, and nausea sometimes (happened once). Of course, I don't know this is adrenal related or not, but it responds to 2 mg cortisol (topical cortisone) and sea salt water. I had one of these incidents about 3 days ago, along with a toe that suddenly developed a bit of inflammation, and hurts. Don't know if it's related, but now my body may be running a little fever (maybe - I'm hypothyroid and my temperature which has been low I think due to rT3 dominance just recently managed to stabilize at 98.6. Just now it was 99.1 - perhaps 1.25 grains Armour is too much once the system starts to get out of "rT3 mode").Jim

It does seem that kidney stones are on the rise for youngsters. The New York Times carried an article on that recently. There have also been suggestions that some of these kidney problems could be due to melamine-tainted foods these children may have been ingesting. Some children do ingest way too much salt due to their unhealthy diets, so some of these cases ought to be investigated. However, Angie, I don't think this may apply to your son, necessarily.

Angie,

I can tell you I am a person who is nortorious for colds that hit my

kidneys. The aching back can be the fever too. It usually last for a

few days and then disappears. Then I will end up with a whopping cold

sore on my lip. How high is his fever? His immune system is certainly

fighting something off which is exactly what its supposed to do. As

long as the fever is not to high why not just hold off on the tylenol

and let the fever run its course. I never give anything to interupt

fever. I put my granddaughter to bed, give lots of liquids and let

her sweat it out.
