Detecting Mold in Your Home

A sour smell in your house could mean something is wrong.

The long winter and floods meant lots of moisture and mold might have been

left behind. Mold will not just go away and needs attention right-a-way

before the situation escalates. There are tools you can use to test for

moisture in your walls. The NDSU Extension Office at the Ward County Courthouse

has a device you can rent to check your house for moisture.

" Most of the experts are telling us that yes there are tests to do if we

have mold in our homes, but they`re fairly expensive, " says Lori Scharmer,

an NDSU Extension Agent. " They`re saying if you can see it and you can smell

it you have it so take care of it. Don`t spend the extra money on the

test. "

The Extension Office has three free units available to rent for 24 hours.

All that is necessary is a 60-dollar deposit that is return when you bring

back the device.
