hi A,

used to have almost the same diet lol. with the exception of meatballs.

he loved them with his pasta. I finally just told him that he had to eat

what we were eating or at least some of it then he could have his pasta and it

worked. He now eats sooooooooo much more!! I really think it's part of

their obsession with sameness, I love looking at his face when he finds new

texture and taste he is truly enjoying his food now, maybe it has to do with

him

now going through puberty I don't know. But I will tell you for years all he

ate was eggs, bacon, pasta of any kind, applesauce, hamburgers and fries.

Just wanted to tell u that it will probably get better, wish I would have

thought of the baby food thing back then..........

Wow, that's fantastic! I can't get to eat anything but waffles, chips,

ice cream, and chicken nuggets! I'm not sure he'd dig chicken ice cream or

chicken a la waffle! Good for you though - I'll definately keep an eye on what

foods I may be able to sneak something " healthy " into.

Thanks for the tip and congrats.

Here's a tip.....

has a limited food selection. Over the years what he use to

eat and what I could " hide " in his food as become limited to NONE

now... I really don't care actually. He lives off of pasta , I have

bigger things to worry about, so he eats what he eats.. mac and

cheese, spaghetti, mand oranges, bananas, apple sauce, and a couple

breakfast things that aren't so healthy LOL... At our recent trip to

the DS Clinic the doc was more concerned about lack of protein and

veggies.. more so the protein. I told her I have tried everything

and he won't do it anymore... and I am pretty creative.. but I have

since resigned myself to the fact that this is what he eats and well,

I don't really care anymore above and beyond that. He even doesn't do

any type of vitamin, he won't take any form of them.

So.. the Devel Ped then says... have you tried baby food in his mac

and cheese or spaghetti.. " But of course, why didn't I think of

that! " :) She said to try the small jars of the meats the have for

protein.. I say what a FABULOUS idea... so.. I finally tried it..

TWICE now and it WORKS!!!! I use the frozen spaghetti/lasagne meals

he eats and the other night I mixed a stage 2 jar of mixed veggies...

the whole jar and mixed it up.. NEVER knew it was there!! And tonight

I did the TEENY jar of the meat.. chicken.. and mixed that with the

lasagne and HE is eating it!!!! I even tasted both times and I

couldn't even tell a difference!!!

SO.. I am SO excited!

So..... just a little FYI as a way to get vitamins and protein into

all that mac and cheese and spaghetti all of our kids love!!!!!

Great idea! How funny, last week was the first time Isaiah ever had mac & cheese

and spaghetti. We'd gotten him to taste it before, but he never wanted any. So

last week when I made spaghetti for the kids I babysit, I didn't even offer him

any. I put the plates on the table for the other kids and he sat at the table

and said, " Thank you, mom " . I thought maybe he would taste it, realize he

didn't like it, then ask for his usual, tortilla with cream cheese. I was so

surprised when he actually finished it and asked for more. The same thing

happened with the mac and cheese. I think that I'll try adding the babyfood

after he's eaten the spaghetti a couple more times. Than knock to the head must

have done something.

To top it off today, he had to go for a blood draw. Dad always has to take him

for that, he's stronger than me. Anyway, had been putting it off for 2

weeks. Finally he decided today was the day. I figured it was best to tell

Isaiah where he was going. I told him, 1st go to doctor, then Mcs. He

seemed okay, but I figured once they got to he lab things would get crazy. Well

for the first time ever he didn't fight. Dad was going to sit down in the chair

and Isaiah said something to him then got into the chair himself. He put out

his arm and watched the whole thing. He even let them put a Band-aid on him.

That in it's self is a big thing, before he wouldn't tolerate them. (Although

it did come off as soon as he got out the door.) After nine years of doing

this, he finally did it without a fight!

I just hope all these changes carry over to school, since he goes back next

week.

Have a great weekend everyone! We have our Buddy Walk tomorrow!

Ray actually responded pretty well to baby food after he was on the

ventilator for 9 days and came home with a sore throat. I was still

supplementing him with that until the past couple of weeks.

I have been fighting to get him to eat using stuffed baked potatoes (with

ground sirloin or bacon, cheese, sour cream and anything else I could sneak

in). I also had to fight to get milkshakes. Now in the past couple of

weeks he is eating everything he can think of especially sweets. This is

not normal for him at any point in his life even on Zyprexa which caused

him to gain 60 plus lbs. I am a bit worried about diabetes because when

his appendice ruptured this summer they found his pancreas was enlarged -

probably from the Depakote. Since the pancreas affects insulin production

I wanted to get a blood sugar. We got one yesterday but I don't have the

results yet.

Reading this and thinking about the opposite experience presently reminded

me of something my grandma used to say... you wouldn't be happy if they

hung you with a new rope. Guess it is one way or the other with eating

(smile).

Take care everyone,

Peggy Lou

Dawn - I love it, great idea. I had a friend who used to shred carrots into

everything, her spaghetti sauce, meatloaf, anything she could hide them in. I

guess I've just never thought of it. I haven't made waffles, homemade, with him

because he's a little " stuck " on EGGO - but he doesn't care what flavor. I

bought the Kashi Blueberry in hopes he would like those, he gagged.

And no, will not eat pancakes.

Thanks,

Jayne

Who just got back from Subway because INSISTED that we go there when he

saw it from the grocery store parking lot - all he ate was the bread on top of

his deli round - couldn't we have covered that HOME!!! LOL

Oh my goodness Adrienne that is too funny about the edges on Waffles - that's

how my sister's son is - there's a " crust " on everything according to him.

It's funny, will eat things at school for his teachers that he wouldn't

dream of eating at home. He's eating dry apple jacks whenever they do " math " ,

basically counting -which is a great food for him to receive the crunching he

needs for his oral " issues " . He's also eating rice krispie treats, he'd never

eat that at home. Kind of like in the movie Airplane " Hmmm, Jim never has a

second cup of coffee at home! " Anyone remember that one? I love Airplane!

Well here's to a smooth dinner at everyone's house tonight! Me? I'm hosting a

few friends to celebrate my son's 14th B-day, they're eating homemade pizza and

sleeping over. IF it doesn't rain, they're off with my husband to watch the

Homecoming game.

Take care,

Jayne
