Guest guest
Hard to miss it. also loved the comment that autism has a well-deserved place in the psychological diagnostic manual. Guest guest
Brain scans and EEG's are virtually useless in an overdrugged population of children. Someone estimated that almost 100% of children diagnosed with cognitive disorders outside the altmed realm have been drugged, sometimes at the youngest ages and sometimes with multiple agents. To get a clear idea whether there is a difference in eegs between controls and children with autism or " ADHD " (I cough out that dx like it was a hairball because it was once a market ploy and now it's been actualized), they'd have to control for drug exposure. The drugs themselves-- even past use-- alters brain activity and the way the scans look. An NIMH researcher was busted in front of colleagues for using brain scans of drug-exposed kids and trying to pass them off as " proof " of brain pathology in children with ADHD. This was known as the " brain scan scam " . In the end, maybe there is a difference but being utterly accurate is paramount, right? > > > Subject: Nice Concerta ad next to this article. > To: eoharm > Date: Sunday, November 9, 2008, 2:55 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > It's a miracle drug! > > Pinpointing an Elusive Diagnosis: ADHD or Autism? > > http://health.msn.com/health-topics/adhd/articlepage.aspx?cp- documentid=100220023 & GT1=31001 > > or http://tinyurl.com/drug-ad > > > > Kurt, Carolyn, and Little Kurt > Toledo, Ohio > visit http://www.asno.org >

And will the side effects (tardive dyskinesia with neuroleptics, tics, etc) only really become apparent if/when the kids are " cured " (whatever word you prefer..) of the underlying autism? If a ASD kids is still flapping because of the ASD, is TD going to necessary show up? But once the underlying ASD problems are fixed/ reduced (if the AAP actually is serious about the DAN! partnership), are the kids going to show up with " unknown cause TD " ? Guest guest
That's one thing I always liked about my kids' pediatrician. He may not have avoided the vaccines, but he was never quick to prescribe medications to deal with symptoms, when the medications themselves could cause worse problems, tardive dykinesia included. My middle son was beset by dysfluency and motor and vocal tics when he was cerca 4 or 5 years old. He had some speech therapy, but I was a bit bemused by all of this, because to me, his dysfluency (stuttering) seemed to be related to his motor tics. Anyway, that son is now ten years older, and one can barely notice any vestiges of his earlier tic problems. His weird phobias have also abated, without the help of any medications. He actually enjoys drama and acting now, a far cry from when he would not let me out of his sight in earlier years. One thing we did, was cancel any further vaccines for him, and his siblings, once I found out what was in them, and how lamely the vaccines are studied. Hang in there, Aasa > Someone estimated that almost 100% of children diagnosed with > cognitive disorders outside the altmed realm have been drugged, > sometimes at the youngest ages and sometimes with> multiple agents.><shiver> I wonder - what kinds of side-effect are we going to get from *that* - set aside the 'coming adult autism epidemic' that will be a mess - we're going to end up with a generation of neurologically damaged adults because of the drugs they were given to "treat" the autism..And will the side effects (tardive dyskinesia with neuroleptics, tics, etc) only really become apparent if/when the kids are "cured" (whatever word you prefer..) of the underlying autism?
