Guest guest
Article on CMT research beneficial to patients Windsor Star Published: Wednesday, November 26, 2008 Regarding White's letter: Condition's description unduly negative, dad says, Nov. 19. I share your understanding that Charcot-Marie Tooth disease is not, in fact, a fatal disease but it does affect each person differently and pain, surgeries and deformities caused by muscle atrophy are very common. While I am happy for your son, who appears to be doing very well, I also have been dealing with CMT since my early teens. I am now in my mid-40s and, unlike your son, by 30 I was wearing orthopedic devices and had various surgeries with more to come in the near future. But regardless of that, I think you missed the point entirely. You should be extremely pleased that there is some funding to study this disease, which is more common than muscular dystrophy but with far less attention. Share the article with your son. I'm sure he's old enough to face the facts and appreciate the positives that this research may bring. Sharon Zakoor LaSalle
