We are not Republicans...We are not Democrats - We are Autism Advocates. We are the Autism Political Party! We will support the candidate who supports the kids!

The following is a Message from a Lin Wessels, mom and a tireless advocate for our kids:

Being from Iowa, I've had some pretty unique opportunities this election cycle. Such as meeting many of the presidential candidates on the campaign trail. I had our son with autism, then five, address them himself (with some assistance from mom) when possible.

After much determination and a ton of hard work on behalf of many, many individuals within the autism community, we have psresuaded McCain to make the following statements on key issues of concern to our community:

1) Vaccine safety, McCain has said he "will work with all agencies to take all necessary steps in an expedient manner to ensure safe vaccines for every American family." This will include continuing work to reduce and eliminate thimerosal from vaccines. 2) Parental choice is paramount. "The key to health care reform is to restore control to the patients themselves." http://www.ageofautism.com/2008/10/mccain-addresse.html

An enormous amount of gratitude goes to Becky Estepp and team for this one!

Now, while all is fine and well with this statement and while we absolutely need to be appreciative to Senator McCain and his staff for the past eighteen months of their time, attention and consideration, I don't believe it would be out of line to continue to press the envelope.

What's crucial to you and your family? What unanswered questions remain?
