Guest guest
First I want to assure the group that no animals were harmed in the posting of this message. I would get the HSUS seal of approval, but the charge too much. When a surgeon ties a suture, either silk, CATgut, or nylon, he and his insurance company don't want it to loosen. The surgeon's knot (Gee, I wonder how it git its name!) is very simple. The first step in a surgeon's knot is the same as the first step in tying a shoe -- a simple overhand twist. The surgeon then makes a second twist in the overhand knot before snugging it down. The rest of the tie is just completing the square knot. In the case if shoelaces, just complete the bow. The extra twist on the first overhand prevents slippage. Next time you tie your shoes, add the second twist and the will stay tied. Really. No more looking for a bench/step to retie, and no more pigeon poop on your clothes if you choose your bench/step with inappropriate caution.
