Forward from a Breast Cancer newsletter I'm on. Why am I not at all surprised at this.. ("FDA = 'Freakin' Dead on Arrival'?? LOL!)FDA Science Board Finds Flaws in BPA DecisionThe U.S. Food and Drug Administration's assessment of bisphenol A, which found the chemical to be "safe," was flawed, according to a scientific board of outside experts. The board, tapped by the FDA to review its work, said that FDA's exclusion of the more than 100 published government and independent studies linking BPA to adverse health effects “creates a false sense of security” about the chemical. The board also cited several FDA missteps, including failing to consider cumulative effects of BPA and recent scientific studies. The controversy doesn't end there: a new investigation by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reveals that the FDA's BPA report was influenced by funding from the plastics industry. And earlier this year, a Congressional inquiry discovered that the FDA had been basing its safety analysis of BPA on just two studies, both funded by the chemical industry. Our advice: Follow the money and ditch the plastic. USA Today: FDA decision on safety of BPA 'flawed' » Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel: Plastics industry behind FDA research on bisphenol A »
