I endorsed Dr. Stoller's site in my comment.. I am having the same

thing going on.. tons of comments vs. actual votes. People aren't

realizing they have to follow the directions to vote... Some comments

are actually doing some good on my idea because it's giving me

feedback for writing the request for a Presidential ACT. I don't

think they realize that getting to talk to or email the President

isn't quite that simple ! E. , Sr.

This just went into the AoA hopper.. And Change.org does seem to have a few kinks - I wonder if it shows on the profile views OTHER causes people have voted for, but not the one(s) YOU'VE voted for? AARGG! TWO typos.. Oh well, one of them is in the number, which I hope will be higher by the time this might get published.."Only 340 Votes?? We Can Do Better Than This..(As of 1:50 AM December 13) If you do know what I'm talking about here - good. I hope you voted for it (if not please do so now). If not - well, the lines of communication in the autism community are not quite as robust as we'd like sometimes, and having a ASD kid or two to raise full-time probably doesn't give much most of us as much free time as we'd like. So, if you don't know what this is talking about - it's K.P. Stoller's cause on Change.org cause called Bodies-In-Rebellion (http://www.change.org/ideas/view/bodies_in_rebellion). Change.org was set up by the Obama people to solicit ideas for possible policy initiatives, and potentially get REAL ACTION done. The top 10 ideas will be presented to President Obama on Inauguration day, after two rounds of voting. Secondly, a nonprofit sponsor for each idea will be selected to "promote" the idea to the Administration and to Congress. The details are can be found (http://www.change.org/ideas/faq).Voting is "relatively" straightforward. You register with Change.org, go to the webpage for the cause, and then click on the icon next to the name that has the number of current votes, which will increased immediately after you click on it. The Bodies-In-Rebellion cause is currently only in third place in the health care category, and could easily be knocked out quickly. Only the top 3 causes advance to the second round of voting, which begins on January 1. Then the top 3 from each category compete against each other. From the signing statement, all of which can be found of Stoller's main website (http://www.bodiesinrebellion.com/)."We believe that the many neurotoxins we are exposed to threaten the viability of human life on Earth and that affected children are the 'canaries in the coal mine.' Many illnesses, including breast cancer, prostate cancer [..] have their origins in the rising levels of pernicious chemicals we come in contact with [..] Today, almost 1 out of 3 American children suffer from at least one chronic illness, and 12 million have some form of developmental disorder. The U.S. has the 4th highest incidence of childhood cancer in the world. Since the 1970's, there has been a 50% increase in childhood acute lymphocytic leukemia and a 35% increase in brain cancer."Now, this will not be a panacea as it were for the autism crisis, or even a guarantee of getting our collective voice listened to (or the right parts of it). The Obama Administration can decided to reject ideas that "won't receive serious consideration from the Administration or the 111'th Congress". Secondly, it is not clear how the "nonprofit sponsor" would be selected. We all know who the two-thousand pound gorilla in the autism world is.. (Hint: it's not NAA or ARI). And they won't do diddly. But it's worth a shot (no pun inteded). Bodies In Rebellion is currently in third place in the first round of voting - which is only within each category. It trails by A LOT of votes (about 500) behind "Single Payer Health Care Plan". Whatever you think about such a plan, it is very broad, hard to implement ("the Devil is in the details" as they say), would have problems of it's own (every insurance system does), and most importantly, HAS BEEN TALKED ABOUT FOREVER by one political person or another, and perhaps most importantly, is ALREADY in Obama's stated agenda. With the number of families affected by autism in the United States alone, the vote total for this should be well over a thousand by now. It isn't. It's only at 339. I know that this idea has been talked about within the Halls of Power before. Perhaps this time would be no different. Or maybe it's a way to bring about the change we know MUST happen sooner than it would otherwise. Maybe not. But we won't know unless we try.I would also encourage EVERYONE who registers and votes to leave a comment - about your child, about your experience, about your observations of "the short bus", exploding special education in your child's schools. This is NOT limited to autism, but also to autoimmunity, allergies, food intolerances, of combinations of all of these. Personally, I would prefer that the focus of this entire debate be broadened in the public mind to include things OTHER than autism - because it certainly does, as K.P. Stoller's statement states. A number of comments do speak to these non-autism problems.Let's blow the competition out of the water and show them what American should REALLY care about! VOTE!"JimOn Dec 13, 2008, at 12:07 AM, E. , Sr. wrote:I endorsed Dr. Stoller's site in my comment.. I am having the samething going on.. tons of comments vs. actual votes. I think I finally figured out how to vote. I really did think I

voted before because I clicked on some link to vote and then made a

comment. This time using the link in the e-mail below I registered

and than voted. The vote went from 345 to 346 when I clicked on

vote. Hope I finally did it right. People need to be referred to the

link to register first. Melinda

Before I went to Strollers main website and signed the letter, I

guess that is not voting? Melinda

Jim,

Should we wait until AOA publishes to send out with your name? I

haven't seen it there yet.

Great email btw!

I don't know - I haven't gotten an email about when they'll

publish either. Someone else may also have written a piece about it

too (probably better!), and you don't really want two pieces on the

same thing so close together.

The count is going up a bit - it's at 379 now.. Not in the

thousands, but.. Only 700 to go!
