The best lab is RealTime. It does mycotoxins in urine, nasal secretions and

biopsy/autopsy material. In addtion, the lab can do PCR-DNA on tissue samples

as well as environmental samples.

Esoterix is a diagnostic lab. However, you need to let us know what tests they

are offering before I can answer your questions.

The DNA/PCR testing they do, would it include bacterial and viral, or do they

specialize in fungal? Thanks

Thanks Jack- if the mycotoxins are found in the urine does that mean there is

current exposure? Does Dr Shoemaker use this lab?

Right now I am trying to determine how many of my symptoms are from mold vs

lyme.

Dr. Shoemaker does do some testing for lyme along with his testing,

I think sometimes some people are misdiagnosed with lyme but others do have

both, maybe someone with both could talk to you about the difference in

symptoms. one difference of the top of my head might be reactive airways,

however you may need to be out of that environment for a while before you start

realizing what kind of symptoms you have.

maybe someone with lyme here can tell you if Dr. shoemakers protocal helped them

or not, I dont know.

The only thing I see is antibodies to molds with respect to Esoterix. I did not

find anything on molds.

If you can find anything yourself, let me know.

The only lab at this time that I trust and use is RealTime for DNA-PCR for

molds.

a: Yes, diganostic testing for food allergies is important. Dr. Allan

Lieberman located in ton, S.C. uses it for this purpose as well as for

exposure to mold.

Mycotoxin in the urine means an ongoing exposure. You may also have an

infectious and/or colonization process of the sinuses. Aspergillus species do

produce mycotoxins that appear in human serum from systemic infections in cancer

patients. Thus, this probably occurs in people with chronic fungal

rhinosinusitis. I recommend mycotoxin testing of early morining nasal sputum

for individuals with sinusitis. They are almost invariably positive for

aflatoxins and ochratoxins.

I have been asked several questions and I will answer them all in one posting:

: the answer is a probable yes. What happens is the treating doctor puts

the patient on corticosteroids in attempt to knock down the inflammation. The

corticosteroids suppress the immune system. There is evidence in the literature

that 2 weeks or more such treatment increases the risk of aspergillosis in

immune competent individuals. I suggest you read my paper on the

biocontaminants in damp indoor spaces. I briefly review this subject. Also,

brain lesions have been seen by Dr. Gray and Dr. Hooper has done mold DNA and

mycotoxins on these lesions. They were postiive.

Sue: You need to discuss the stool cultures with Dr. Gray. I believe he is

trying to rule in or out other pathogens (bacteria) as well as Candida

overgrowth as one of the problems. Yes, Dr. Gray is correct that it sometimes

takes up to 8-10 weeks to culture out some of the molds. Therefore, if you had

a previous culture done by a treating physician that was less than 8-10 weeks

(usually they are done for 7 days), ignore the results.

Regarding the mycotoxins in the urine. You said that you were out of the house

1 and 1/2 months before the testing. I doubt that it will effect the results

that much. Two things are happening: colonization (infection) and conjugation

to various proteins. If you are colonized the molds will continue to produce

the mycotoxins. Conjugation means that the mycotoxins bind to various

molecules, e.g. proteins, and are slowly released from these stored conditions.

Because of these two occurences mycotoxins can be positive in urine test for

months following exposure.

Finally, I wish to point out that several molds including the yeast Candida

produce a highly toxic mycotoxin - gliotoxin. This particular mycotoxin has

been found in dust in contaminated homes. In addition, it has been identified

in the sera of cancer patients with aspergillosis. In my professional opinion,

this particular mycotoxin has been overlooked. Agains, see my paper on

biocontaminants.

May I add that mycotoxins in the urine can also be from Candida. After testing

positve MANY times over the last 5 years, I just found out that candida can

cause the mycotoxins. I think everyone should know this as I tried to figure out

where my exposure was coming from all that time. Candida is a problem for me due

to immune-deficiency.

Ongoing is a simple term and means what it says. It could be external or

internal environment. I cannot make a decision which it is without more

information regardin a particular situation.

Candida produces gliotoxin. The urine and saliva tests are for trichothecenes,
