Can someone answer this for me?How can a satellite directly above a given area get a frontal view of a person's home?I can see how you can get an aerial shot looking down in someone's backyard -- but how do they get a front view? wouldn't a camera have to be planted directly in front of your home?thanks

The curve of the earth helps, I think. Also, if I'm standing on a

scaffold directly above the head of someone standing below, I can't see

their face. If you place the scaffold thirty feet away, I can actually

see the face of the person standing. Throw in the earth's curve and

distance and I suppose it's possible to get a frontal angle.

But wouldn't the house right across the street somehow or in a way partially block this view? This is scary to me. You can zoom in so far that you can see every rock on the ground and crack in the driveway.Subject: Re: OT (I think) privacy issueTo: EOHarm Date: Tuesday, December 16, 2008, 8:14 PM

I did a lot of research for my cross country trip this past summer and found

websites with

pictures of buildings-- from the street. I think they did it with a van or

truck. If you go to

Google Maps- there are street views. This has actually helped me a few times,

but you can

see people's homes from the ground (not a satellite). Is this right or wrong?

I don't know.

I think it's like anything where the info can be used for good OR for bad.

There is also another online map service that has a " bird's eye view " which is a

different

angle than Google.

Don't expect any privacy. Google has cars driving all over the place

(many countries) taking photos of private property. My son (AS) LOVES

the street-level views of the city streets and roadways around the

world. Sux, huh?

Just a few articles concerning this:

OK - so I got to thinking -- that -----Cable box (cable/internet) directly across the street from my house -- it is in direct line with the view that originally shows when you google. my address. I walked down the street and then crossed and walked back toward the cable box. There are four holes in the top portion of the box. Two are filled with a washer and screws and the other two appear to have a clear plastic round shield over them...... almost like a camera lense -- that type of plastic. I am thinking about putting some black tape over the front of each hole. Hey - that cable company provides internet service (Yahoo, etc.) so they are probably within their rights sticking a camera inside. And it's funny that the photo is about one week old as I know all of the landscape markers (how huge my rosemary bush in front

of the house is, how there is a pr. of flipflops sitting on top of the bike seat where my bike sits right by my front door. I wonder how long it would be before the black tape would be removed?????? I'm going to try it. I'm thinking I will have to do this when it is dark. lolSubject: Re: OT (I think) privacy issueTo: EOHarm Date: Wednesday, December 17, 2008, 12:12 AM

You are correct. The photos are not taken via satellite, but from the

ground:

hohoho, hahaha - I know all of those locations.Traffic cameras for speeding/red-light-running (which is so prevalent here because no one walks -- too hot most of the time) have never bothered me. Just those sitting across the street from my house or as one mom told me and I witnessed for myself on the westside of Phx., those that are aimed into a neighborhood which are about 200 feet up. pointing straight down.Subject: Re: OT (I think) privacy issueTo: EOHarm Date: Wednesday, December 24, 2008, 3:49 PM
