Guest guest
Lenny, I know that you don't like online petitions, and neither do most of the rest of us. However, when we do occasionally come across (otherwise) dedicated activists resorting to using these, perhaps we could help them out a bit. They wouldn't be resorting to using these petitions, if easier, more effective methods were readily available. (Recall Isabella 's son with his petition regarding Wakefield, not too long ago,...). I know that Carole Clinch and others are doing their best to help rid our water systems of fluoridation, but they are fighting an uphill battle with little support. This petition may not change the minds of the WHO, BUT it may help educate others, or at least draw others' attention to the matter at hand, when or if they manage to read the petition. This is very important in itself, because many people have no clue that fluoride in their water could be problemmatic. Even if the petition does not sway the WHO, it has potential to gather allies in the battle against fluoridation, as more people will become aware of the issues and misconceptions surrounding water fluoridation. Anyway, that's my "pipe" dream, for now,... Oh, I don't know if most people here or anywhere share my take on dubious online petitions. Like I said, I think they can be fun, so go ahead and have a ball, if you don't mine sharing your email address to get hit up with political spam and solicitations. At least, if you read my emails, you will be an informed " petitioner " and will have some idea just how effective these things are. But I have to tell you that I will not be swayed by acts of symbolic gestures over concrete actions. People do get exhausted over taking political actions. I am just not going to get excited about exhorting people to chase after political marketing and community organizing stunts, when there is real work to be done. And that is what website polls and online petitions are. I would probably be better off keeping my mouth shut and let people chase butterflies. . .
