Guest guest
Jim Carrey Clears Up His Stance on Antidepressants By White for People Magazine. http://is.gd/cniF Funnyman Jim Carrey continues to speak out about a very serious issue – the best way to treat depression. " There are a lot of different ways to skin a cat, " the actor, 46, told PEOPLE at Wednesday's Yes Man premiere in L.A. " It's important to think on our own. " Carrey – who has long been open about his own battles with depression – says he's the happiest he's ever been thanks to vitamin supplements. Too often, he claims, people think anti-depressants are the only answer. " I think the medical establishment we're presented with, it's a system, " said the comedian. " They're taught a certain thing. There is drug company money that goes into the educational system. I'm saying you have to look outside that, and consider the other possibilities for people. " In the end, he said, " It's important that there are alternatives. " Carrey made similar comments to CNN's Larry King on Monday night, wading into potentially controversial territory. Most notably, he said he " didn't disagree " with Tom Cruise's infamous condemnations of prescription medications. " I think Prozac and things like that are very valuable to people for short periods of time, " he said on the show. " But I believe if you're on them for an extended period of time, you never get to the problem. " Carrey was joined at the premiere by girlfriend McCarthy – who has also been an outspoken proponent of alternative medical treatments for her son, Evan, who suffers from Autism. The couple will have a " small Christmas " this year, Carrey said, noting that dinner will probably include " turkey genocide of some sort. Guest guest
OMG. I knew somehow his comments would be considered controversial. Why do we act like medications and mainstream medicine is freaking sacred or something? It's pathetic how people are brainwashed on this issue. I loved what he said on Larry King Live and I look forward to him speaking out more about this and writing a book on the subject as he told Larry King he was going to do. I have to say I thought Tom Cruise was a flake until I heard him go off about medications and things like ADHD on the Today show 2 years ago. I started to like him again after that. Though the rest of the world seemed to think he was a total Scientological nut job. Ironically, since he has a new movie out, he was back on the Today show this past week apologizing to Matt Lauer for his behavior on that show. > > Jim Carrey Clears Up His Stance on Antidepressants > > By White for People Magazine. http://is.gd/cniF > > Funnyman Jim Carrey continues to speak out about a very serious > issue – the best way to treat depression. > " There are a lot of different ways to skin a cat, " the actor, > 46, told PEOPLE at Wednesday's Yes Man premiere in L.A. Guest guest
Actually, Carrey said he DIDN'T disagree with Cruise in many ways: http://edition.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Movies/12/16/q.a.jim.carrey/ Carrey: Well, that's another thing. You know at the risk of like opening up the whole Tom Cruise Prozac argument, you know, I don't disagree in many ways. I think Prozac and things like that are very valuable to people for short periods of time. But I believe if you're on them for an extended period of time, you never get to the problem. You never get to see what the problem is, because everything is just kind of OK. And so, you don't deal. And people deal when they get desperate. Pretty gutsy.
