Guest guest
Prolly only applies to couples who eat fish with the good mercury.Lenny OH!! Now I get it. Thanks for clearing that up. ;-) Yes, almost all couples are happily married with kids with autism if they eat fish with good mercury. Perfect sense.... ;-) ( I shouldn't be joking about this stuff. However, I guess when someone has a child who has been afflicted with autism, it affects the family in many ways. For me, it has even had a very bad effect on my sense humor.) Guest guest
Low Divorce Rate Family Autism Excerpted from the Chigaco Trib. http://is.gd/cnuO --A popular myth about families living with autism is that the pressure often leads parents to divorce. The study found, however, that the parents of children with autism divorce less frequently than parents of typical children, and of those who do divorce, only a third attribute the break up to managing their child's needs. Guest guest
Seriously, most people in my " autism circle " I know are married. Not scientific, at all. Guest guest
Our Regional Center rep stated 72 husbands out 0f 75 in her (mostly autism) caseload had bolted. I cannot fathom leaving a child who needs me, although there have been (and continue to be) difficult times. Part of the program when one elects to be a parent, IMHO. Helping my son is by far the most important and rewarding thing I have done in my life. I believe National divorce rate is close to 50% for some, but those numbers change radically for different incomes and other demographics. CDC claims marriage is the leading cause of divorce. <g> Best, Rick wrote: >> Seriously, most people in my " autism circle " I know are married. > > Not scientific, at all. > > > Okay, now I know that I'm not the only one confused. Guest guest
I have to agree, that most of the local Autists have two-parent families. I cannot say that it is always both biological parents, so perhaps there is wiggle room for divorce to have been their. Of the four families I know with no dad presents (the losers!), two never were married to begin with, and again, I haven't gotten nibby enough with them to see if the sperm-donor was ever in the picture, pulled a fade cause of their autistic child, or whatever. I don't think we have a very true picture of just what the divorce rate actually is in this country (I work with several people who are on marrage 4+, so do they drive up the rate?), but I would have to say in my small corner it is either at or below the rate of general society. Guest guest
I've posted about this before. Long story, short, yes. Guest guest
I am glad you pointed this out again. A 50% divorce rate does not mean that half of all marriages fail. There are plenty of serial polygamists who skew the numbers. Then again, how many failed marriages never end up in divorce? Guest guest
And besides, isn't that 50% of the marrages formed this year will end indivorce as opposed to 50% of ALL marrages will do so?
Guest guest
That rate would have a different name.
