Cod liver oil. People think I'm weird, but I just love the stuff. I take 10

ml a day, when I remember (I forgot yesterday - I sometimes do).

I haven't noticed.

3 pills a day, with probably 1 ml per pill (guess)? How about taking 10 ml of

cod liver oil a day instead? Even if it is 3 times less effective, you're

still (slightly) better off, in pocket I'd guess, as well as in effectiveness.

The oil will pass through your system, and it is now believed may help your

gut, as well as the vitamins in the oil being extremely good for you.

Therefore, the more oil you can take, the better for you (up to the

reommended dose of course!).

I also regularly eat oily fish - mackerel being my favourite. I usually get

through a 125g (4.5oz) tin a day.

Hi Ronnie :

I take a form of fish oil - but in a soft gel cap. I use "Super EGA" from Vitamin Shoppe. The EGA is supposed to be the good stuff in the oil. Maybe it would be easier on your stomach. I also take Primrose Oil the same way. Between the two, it provides the Omega 3 and Omega 6 oils recommended for the gut. I take 1000 mg of each twice a day...Dean.

rheumatic Fish Oil Supplements

Is anyone out there using Fish Oil Supplements? My Rheumatologist suggested I try them for Psoriatic Arthritis. I didn't try them earlier because the thought of it while I was on Sulfasalasine and Methotrexate didn't appeal to me. Now that I am taking Minocine it didn't seem so sickening. The problem is every time I take one it's like a bad vacation in Mexico. Fish Oil seems to be VERY laxative. Has it worked for any of you? I'm trying the intero coated type. It's supposed to be 3 times as effective so you only take 3 pills a day. Is the benefit worth the ordeal? Ronnie E. To unsubscribe, email: rheumatic-unsubscribeegroups

I've used them a lot, since the beginning of my diagnosis. I take salmon oil

capsules. I've never had the laxative problem from them. I wonder if there

isn't something that goes on in the digestive process in the stomach that

could make that difference? Perhaps you could try one that is not enteric

coated for awhile and see. I took at the outset 5-6 one gram capsules a

day, and still take some, but have had to cut back on my supplements for

financial reasons. Liz G.

Ok here I go again.....I am really curious about something. I am seriously

considering this ProEFA. How did you guys get started? Did you get your dr

involved for mineral testing etc? How do you know how much to give? What are

the key things I want to make sure are in this supplement (Omega 3 and 6, EFA,

EPA, DHA, etc)? Why is it 23.00 one place and 10.00 another? Help me

please!!!!! I want to do this but want to do the right thing. Thanks.

[ ] Oral Apraxia but verbally phonological

At 2 years old my son had 5 words and was diagnosed with oral

apraxia, we assumed verbal apraxia would follow - he had all of the

classic oral apraxia signs and still has a lot of them now. I

started him on the fish oil supplement and he started pretty intense

speech therapy with an instructor who uses PROMPT. He is now 2 1/2,

and about three months ago his speech really started to take offf

and he went from a 50 word vocabulary to a 250 (+) word vocabulary

and speaks in full sentences -

in about 3 months after therapy. He now attempts to imitate

everything we say, however his articulation is very poor. He has

trouble with the labial sounds and consistently substitutes M for N,

B for D, P for D - he calls me Nonny etc...

Now the therapists that he goes to (he has two - one ei and one

private) both agree that verbally he is phonological, not apraxic

since he is so consistent in his constanent substitution and his

speach seems effortless. However, they still think orally he is

apraxic since he can't do most oral motor things on command. His

tongue sounds (d,n,y,s,t) are age appropriate, but he has trouble

sticking out and moving his tongue on command.

Everything I have read says that Oral and verbal apraxia seem to go

together. One of my speech therapists even suggested that he was

verbally apraxic and that it turned into a phonological disorder the

he got a plan - but three months seems so fast.

Has anyone else ever heard a case like this where a child was Orally

apraxic and not verbally apraxic or where they were verbally apraxic

and then became phonologically impaired ?

don't ?

When we first started Mark, he was 15 mo old. I started on one capsule of

ProEFA daily. Then at 18 mo, added one capsule of ProEPA. By 24 mo I upped

both to 2 caps a day. Hope this information helps.

Ok so squirting it in her mouth wasnt a picnic......lol

She cried like her heart was broken but she is fine now. I think its worth

knowing she got it and crying for 2 seconds than putting it in a bowl of

something. Her juice worked yesterday too.....we should have alot of fun

experiencing foods. I really dont think I'd have a problem with ketchup.....she

makes sure its allll gone!

On the old http://www.apraxia.cc website, mentioned that she had added the

EPA and there was extra benefit. I added it and Mark did and still continues to

benefit from it.

Hi All,

Would anyone who is taking fish oil supplements be willing to post what brands

you prefer, the mg you take, how often you take them and where you get them

from?

Thanks!

Generic fish oil?  I'm generally a fan of generics (manufactured in the US),

but fish oil is a little different, since there's a risk of contaminants (heavy

metal, mercury and other PCB pollutants) in fish oil products that aren't highly

refined, and these heavy metals are neurotoxins.

Rather than selecting any generic on the shelf, I'd lean toward a generic that

has a verifiable third party certification of purity on label, i.e. USP.

Dr. Sears, the doctor who wrote The Zone Diet, also recommends a home test to

see if there are heavy metals in the oil.  He suggests emptying several capsules

into a small container...like a lid or thimble...then freezing it for five

hours.  If a toothpick goes through it easily, then it doesn't have serious

levels of contamination.  In addition, he recommends using your nose to detect

if it's rancid or oxidized.  I've tested both of the fish oils I have in the

house and they've both passed the crude freezer test, but the Costco brand

(which is very inexpensive) actually smelled better.

Some use flax seed oil instead of fish oil to get Omega-3's due to being

vegetarian or concerned about the heavy metals.

Wouldn't hurt to research and discuss the subject with your doctor before using.

Carmella:

Just go to your local pharmacy and get the generic.
