Thank you, !! You read my mind. Like everyone on this list, I have my views on these subjects.......but I refrain from adding them, as I want the subjects to GO AWAY so we can get back to business.....of getting well.

rheumatic OT

Can we all agree, and respect, that some people believe in God and some don't, that some people believe alcoholism is a disease and some don't, that some people believe in prayer in school and some don't, that some people believe in home schooling and some don't, that some people believe child rearing is the sole responsibility of the parents and some don't, that some people believe they know everything and some don't............and just get on with it already?

I, for one, am getting kind of turned off by the sheer redundancy of it all.........be well,

: Glad to hear of your OT evaluation. My son is going to an OT

evaluation tomorrow morning and I am nervous also. I don't even know if

he has a delay in this area, but from everything I have been reading, kids

with apraxia often times have sensory integration issues.....like I know

what that means. Personally, I think he is also doing age appropriate

things and transitions well between activities.

But again, if OT sessions would help with his speech, regardless of a delay

or not, I will do what ever it takes to help him out.

Good luck the rest of the way and I will update the group on what we find

out. Going out again in unchartered territory.

Very glad i asked about an OT at this group.  They saw

my son at preschool today for an evaluation and do

think that they have reason to schedule him for 30

minutes a week.  I didn't know they were coming today

or would've told them my concerns before hand.  Then

his teacher tells me when i was picking him up that

they were seeing him then.  I was sitting there

wondering if they would see what i did and what if

they said he was fine when i knew better in case they

weren't looking for the right things.  Then thought,

well if they know their job they will find it.  And

sure enough they did.  They gave me a few things to

work with him at home and they will see him once a

week.  She said she thinks he will do fine and is

doing age appropriate things, but why not work with

him on the few things.  She will give him goals and

she has no doubt that he'll accomplish them this

school year and said she believes he'll be fine next

year once he goes to kindergarten.  I am so glad i

came to this group or wouldn't have known the 'little

things' i notice actually 'are' a problem let alone

that they can be helped.  Thanks for all of your input

that got me to get to this evaluation.  It sure was

worth it!

Yeah, i figured if it is free and they think they can

help, go to it. The OT told me i may as well take

advantage of it because here in our town maybe state

at least once they get to kindergarten this particular

service is not one the city pays for. I can take him

to a private OT but would pay of course. So we'll

take what we can for now. Granted if he still NEEDED

to go after this school year, i'll get him in to a

program-- but she was optimistic that he would do

well. Good luck with yours tomorrow!

The OT said that she noticed when he colors, he is

heavy handed. Also that he opens his mouth when he

gets nervous and is a mouth breather. Who on earth

would've ever thought that was a sign of anything!!!!

He gets that from his father. Also he walks on his

toes sometimes when nervous which is why he is seeing

the PT. The little things would be his SID. He has a

mild case. I am sure that there are people here who

have big cases and ones that they have worked on for

quite some time and still are. I noticed on here the

one lady who has the child like mine who freaked at

the amusement park. I never would've thought that was

a problem that needed investigated to see if he had

SID, i just figured he was tired or being difficult.

I didn't know it was anything let alone something he

could get help with. He also has the problem like

another lady's daughter, if he is the first one in the

room and the group builds around him he is fine, but

if he is last in a group of people he freaks out. I

guess i think of these things as his lesser problems

and his speech delay as his bigger one. I can always

pull him out of a room but he needs to talk to other

people. My son's biggest problem in his big picture

is his dye allergy. He had tantrums and severe

behavioral problems associated with that. Once we

removed the artificial colorings and preservatives

from his diet, he has been a much happier child. He

is on the Feingold diet for that. He is better able

to listen to what is being taught to him in preschool

by his teacher and speech therapist. And for physical

therapy too. He has calmed down and is behaving so he

can learn better.

: Oh my, I was so nervous at 's OT evaluation yesterday, I

thought that I was going to be sick! The therapist noticed my nerves and

gave me lots of reassurances. sat through about 1/2 of the

evaluation, when he decided he wanted to leave. But overall, it went

well. I have to wait for the write-up and scoring, but the therapist

noticed some things we could work on with that would help his

speech and sequencing.

I will let you know more when I hear from them " officially " .

I too have a funny story about the missed epi. By the time I reached the

hospital the labor pains felt like they were coming every minute. when the nurse

gave me the exam she said your only 5cm, I said to my no way she said yes, are

you thinking of an epi?Get to me now I said. Then she said ok I call for one

and off the room we went were our little guy was going to be born. To make a

long story short 6 minutes after getting into the room Austin was born 7.7lbs so

much for the epi.

Hey Rhonda =)

Was this your SIL's first? I remember thinking how I could make it

through labor, if I wanted natural bad enough. After I developed a

kidney stone at 31 weeks and felt pain that most people say closely

compares to labor that there was no way...I was going to have an

epidural! Well, funny thing...I was induced at 41 weeks, and they

had to use Cervidil to soften my cervix because I was not effacing

or dilating at all. I was supposed to have that in for 12 hours and

then they were going to start Pitocin. About 3 hours after getting

the Cervidil I started feeling some pretty bad cramps, which the

nurse said was normal. I started walking around, and then I just

didn't want to even get up anymore. At about 5 hours, I was in

serious pain! I didn't think I was in labor, all they did was put

the Cervidil in...how was I going to get through the Pitocin?

Well, turns out I was in labor. At 5.5 hours I was screaming at the

nurse that it was incredibly painful and that something

was " wrong " . She didn't want to do a manual exam, claiming that

they were pretty uncomfortable and that her experience was that I

wouldn't be that far along. I finally yelled at her (and my husband)

and she checked my cervix, of course I was like 5 cm and in serious

active labor. I had Josh an hour later...not enough time for an

epidural. So, I got my original wish even though I didn't want to.

The nurse apologized so much to me...wasn't really her fault

though. I would tell everyone, GET AN EPIDURAL! It is crazy not

to. I don't care what class you take =)

Well, just had to share my story. Glad to hear your SIL and brother,

and your new little nephew are doing well. Tell your SIL she is a

smart gal for getting the epidural at 2 cm! =)

Take care,

Congrats to you and your brother's family!! I love the name Mason.

was 7 lbs. 10 oz. also. I came into the hospital with a birth plan

(although I was very flexible) but I find that people who assume birth will

go a certain way are always surprised!! Nothing ever goes as planned.

My resources and my own research has shown that the neurological

processes involved in speech are also linked to motor planning and

movement. As Josiah is more able to use the small muscles in his

hands, cross his midline and work with both hands, his ability to

verbalize increases. After three months of both speech and OT, I am

happy that he is simply " babbling " more especially after OT

sessions. Our ST told me that OT alone can assist speech along but

ST without OT is less effective. Meaning, Josiah needs to be

learning to move, not just his mouth, tongue and jaw to create

speech.....he needs to learn to use both his hands, do fine motor

work, learn to process information in tasks, etc. That's my two

cents worth on the subject of OT with apraxia and speech delays.

Your post was not off-topic at all. You are misunderstanding the

tagging, not the list-topic. The RELIGION tag does not indicate

something is off-topic; it indicates the topic has a religious nature

to it. The POLITICS tag does not indicate the post is off-topic; in

indicates it is political in nature. It is the OT tag that gets used

for things that are off-topic, and it doesn't get used often.

Discussing the list-topic is not off-topic so this thread does not

need it.

I am going to church this Sunday, My daughter asked me to go with her.

you mentioned church is why i am answering. I haven't went to church in about

3 years. because of pain.

My daughter has not went to church in many  years except to get married or a

holiday like Christmas or Easter. I couldn't turn

her down, no matter how much pain I am in. I hope it goes OK. I am going to use

the

wheel chair so it will be bearable. If I leave than she will leave. The whole

family is going.

My daughter is pregnant. Her oldest is 15. She said to me that she has another

chance to teach her child about God. I took her first son to church cause she

didn't, at

least he got some training.

I am writing this letter because I was so scared to go to church because of the

pain but you gave me more courage.

I will let you know the outcome after i go.

thank you

Hi there .. My name is Jolene. On top of the Ra/prosiatic arthritis I also

have rsd which is a very painful

Condition above anything else even cancer. I have to say that when I

started the methotrexate it put me on my feet literally. I wasn't walking

nor was I able to get out of bed .. I had a breakdown till they finally

diagnosed me, the rsd was a bad enough diagnose let alone the Ra. Anyways

what I wanted to say is that

I am so glad to be alive. I struggled like many here, I have good and bad

days, I also have five children and a grandbaby so it was a huge struggle to

accept this.. But once I have and Heidi on here will tell you she talked to

me online the first time I took my methotrexate cause I was so scared. And

yes I hear a lot of negative. Unfortunately there are some bad cases of

everything, not just Ra. Rsd what I have there is no cure for. From what

everyone told me I would be on pain pump,l and in a wheelchair, well guess

what I'm not!! I don't take that litely as I know I could be with either

diagnosis. But I know that having a good

Positive support system and encouragement is a big big difference in our

lives. Being in a group like this

And other supports is a very good thing. I am the unusual I take no pain

meds, most do I choose not to, and that's my choice, but I have learned to

sacrifice some days for others. I know if I go to church on Sunday that on

MOnday I have to rest. My husband has to grocery shop (YEAH) I crawl down

the basement stairs. I have learned to garden in a chair, but I can at

least do it. There is lots of hope my friend. If you need to talk I am

around.

-- [ ] Beginners in the Group

Hello Group

I am a new person in the group. and I have read some

devastating news about RA. It is good that I know what

to expect. I am so sorry for those that are suffering.

I am suffering too. I don't have big bumps yet. I can

use the bathroom. I can open and close jars. I am in

pain.

I have had pain my entire adult life. On a 1 to 10, I will

say an average of 5 my entire adult life. The doctors

could not find anything wrong, so I had to get

pain medications any way I could. People who knew I

was in pain help me get pain medication. Doctor would

not give me any unless I found an unscrouplous doctor.

and I found some.

Well, Five years ago they found RA and Fibromyalgia. Now

I can get pain meds. But these last couple months, I have

been in unbearable pain. Some days at an all time high 10.

From the letters I read its going to be very good days

or very bad days. I am scared. I have read some

amazing stories here. People in pain I understand. And your

right no one can know what its like till it happens

to them. For the first time these last few weeks. I

could barely make it to the bathroom. I couldnt get out

of bed unless I had to go to the bathroom, thats how much

pain I was in.

I had no Idea it was going to be like this. Oh my gosh, Its

the letters I read that make me want to go on.

I had children so I know pain. Constant pain like I have

is so unbearable. Some of the stories scare me. But at least

I know what to expect.

Yours kindly

Clora
