Whew! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unfortunately, I suspect the "23,000 messages to one another" were generated by less than 100 members of EOH. However, we can all find comfort in knowing all 2300 members were exposed to "information and justified rants" they would in all likelihood never had been exposed to if it were not for EOH. That is a very good thing. Think of "posting" on EOH as throwing a sizeable rock into a very serene lake...and....watching the ripples spread far and wide beyond where the rock was thrown. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lenny posted: Real potential disappointments:(not in order of importance)1. IACC2. Combating Autism Act3. change.org/Obama/Autism Speaks4. ASA (merging with Autism Speaks?). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I agree, the biggest disappointment has been...and....continues to be.....Autism Speaks. Their undeserved...national recognition and resources....has afforded them opportunity to "compromise" the dedicated efforts of grass-root organizations that have been working for years to develop meaningful federal and state legislation that will help our families. In recent (12/23/08) Age of Autism column, "Is Autism Speaks At War With Itself?" by Kirby....this Autism Speaks "policy statement on vaccine research and safety" speaks for itself: "Public trust in immunization programs must be protected. Thus it is critical that we take steps now to do all we can to affirm the public confidence in the safety of vaccines." I would suggest "public trust...and....confidence in the safety of vaccines" is "critical" to Every Child By Two.....NOT.....Autism Speaks....whose ONLY reason for being is to promote awareness of...and....research for....AUTISM. Admittedly, they have been successful in promoting "awareness"...but....their self-identified priority of maintaining public CONFIDENCE in the safety of vaccines is clear and convincing evidence they have abandoned their "reason for being"....which is to fund and conduct research that "guarantees" VACCINES....not...CONFIDENCE IN VACCINES...are SAFE. Lenny, YOU will never truly know how much EOH has meant to our families...but....rest assured...OUR families know. God bless my friend and have a happy holiday season. It's far more than that, but that should not be surprising. First of all, composition is the weaker skill of most people who are literate. While most people (US) can do a decent job of reading, only a small minority are able to readily compose their thoughts into public worthy paragraphs. There is also a steady turnover of posting writers to this list. This is a much less personality driven medium than blogs and more participatory. As writers leave, or lose interest, others step up to take their place. More people are spread more thin throughout the internet as the technology progresses. There are over 3800 lists on yahoogroups alone that have " autism " somewhere in there group description. Facebook type gathering mediums are sprouting up all the time if you taste goes more towards the gossipy style. Where this list goes in 2009 depends on its members. I think we go far for who we are, in impregnating the world with the message that something is happening to our children -- and the emporer of pharma and public health are wearing no clothes.
