Guest guest
Mercola could have gone further to question not just the use of antipsychotics for unapproved purposes but also for the approved purposes. It's not as if you take the drugs for an approved purpose and you're not going to get the side effects, such as brain shrinkage within 12 weeks to 12 months (depending on the brand-- but they all do this). Who needs that extra gray matter, right? The risk/balance ratio for these drugs is terrible no matter what condition is being treated. TD isn't just muscle tics-- anyone exposed over five years of time can develop physically agonizing twisting of the torso and limbs which distorts and threatens the function of internal organs. Anything manifesting physically, such as tics, tardive dyskinesia or other aspects of drug-induced Parkinsonianism reflects gross brain structural and functional impairment and can be equivocated with the onset of dementia and other signs of severe and irreversible brain disorder (Moncrief, 2007). There is zero basis for the dopamine theory which industry uses to back the marketing of these drugs as well. It's not true that schizophrenics suffer from surges in dopamine or that people experiencing psychosis do, so the theory that the " dopaminergic " (dopamine-inhibiting) affects of antipsychotics are therapeutic is a fallacy. They only induce another disease. The dopamine theory no more true for autism than it is for any other condition, and opiates have shown the same effectiveness in suppressing an accute psychotic episode. The entire dopamine/monoamine theory was based on observations made more than half a century ago in institutions that, once a schizophrenic developed Parkinson's disease, their episodes of psychosis declined, so doctors set about deliberately inducing Parkinsonianism with the use of early antipsychotics as a " cure " for schizophrenia. The logic behind this is grotesque. A completely paralyzed or dead schizophrenic is also going to display less " incidence of psychosis " and the disease-induction model of dopamine is eerily similar. All that can account for reduced psychosis in patients treated with antipsychotics is that the drugs cause global slowing of physical and emotional response. You could do the same with a well-placed blow to the head with a brick, really. > > Unconscionable Drugging of Our Children > > > > > > > http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2008/12/16/unconscion able-drugging-of-our-children.aspx >
