Guest guest
It will pass. Just take it easy for a few days. My worst reaction to overdoing it lasted two weeks. Most of the time, a few days of rest is all that is needed to get back to my " normal " muscles after I've accidentally done too much. It's very easy to overdo things, because most of the pain doesn't hit until later. It seems we have to learn our limits the hard way. Just rest. Anti-inflammatories can help too. I went to the mountains did more walking and climbing step and now I am paying for it. My thighs are so sore I can barely walk, to the point its scaring me. Sitting and getting up are very hard. Guest guest
If it's anything like my CMT, the muscles in the front of the thighs are strong and make up for the weaker muscles. This type of thing has happened to me many times while riding bike, due to the quadriceps compensating for the other leg muscles. Once the " good " muscles relax back to normal, this will feel just fine. You have to give it a rest though. Dawn > > Help I have CMT 1A mild. Guest guest
Sounds like you just overworked your muscles. Don't know if you exercise regularly and work on thigh muscles or not. A step class is good for thighs, there are also floor exercises, et al. Take it easy for a few days, the soreness should go away. Maybe use some heat on your sore muscles. Guest guest
Dear mwinslow26, What you have described below- the inability to perform an activity (without pain or weakness) that you once were able to do . I can only assume that at an earlier point in your life you were able to do the level of exertion that has landed you in bed. Bed is a general term I use for the rest period of time required for your body to regain " normal " strength. Some of my scariest moments with CMT came 4-6 yrs ago when after a period of inactivity I was unable to perform and recover from what was normal high energy activities in a normal amount of time. I recall sitting in my office at 5 or 6o'clock at night with very little strength to walk out to the elevator! In tears I called my neurologist and shared with him my rapid progression of symptoms and the possibility of a worst disease or wrong diagnosis. He assured me of his diagnosis and I made an appointment to visit with him. 2 things to keep in mind: 1. Activity is not an option. Do not stop moving. 2. We must work every day at maintaining our strength, balance and energy so we are able to continue moving. Sounds simple? Everyone on this site is trying to achieve such goals. Yes you will feel better in time but from the level of pain you may want to consider you have become out of shape. You may want to determine if you are in need of addition activity or help from afo's or medical treatment to maintain the strength and endurance to perform such a walk. I am able to perform at 100x the level I was a few years ago. I turned 47 this summer and I am thrilled at my bodies rejuvenation powers. I know I won't get too many chances to get moving from my period of inactivity and getting in shape for a CMT'er is slow! But not impossible and not an option. Good luck- KimK From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of mwinslow26 Sent: Monday, October 12, 2009 11:46 AM Subject: Sore thighs Help I have CMT 1A mild.
