Guest guest
Hi Dawn, Thanks for asking. My FIL is about the same. He is home, four houses away from me, with a feeding tube. The drs have no clue what testing to do next considering all his testing thus far has been inconclusive. I am running back and forth changing his tube dressing and trying to figure out a balanced diet for an 86 yr old guy. After his esphogus dialation he can eat pureed foods. He wants to eat but can't eat enough for proper nutrition. I am trying to balance the canned nutrition with his food. I called the hospital dietician but she couldn't help too much because she is not supposed to consult with patients out of the hospital. The visiting nurses do not have a dietician on staff. Joan I wish you were closer. I never realized how difficult this is. I have a new appreciation for what you do. Zeb met a girl in school this year. He came home with her phone number and address. She lives very close to us. He begged to call her during this vacation and invite her to our house. I was hesitant not knowing anything about her. I actually didn't want Zeb to get his hopes up and be disappointed if she declined or her parents said no. Zeb called a few times and always seemed to get a tape. The Mom finally called me and asked if she could drop off her daughter to visit. had also been asking her Mom to visit with Zeb. They are a very good match. The Mom never said anything about her. I actually expected a typical peer. Intellectually they are very similiar. does not have DS. They sat in Zeb's room and watched a movie. I walked by often and they seemed to be fine. After the movie I drove them to my FIL's so I could change his dressing and check on his food intake. The kids were sitting in the backseat quietly and out of the blue Zeb asked if she liked her first kiss. My hair stood on end! just smiled as I watch through the rear view mirror. She has since visited again and the both of them have not left my sight. I learned to expect teenage behavior regardless of the disability, something I never expected to happen this young. Happy New Year to all. Charlyne Mom to Zeb 13 DS/OCD/ASD? a043059 wrote: did I spell your name right? sometimes my spelling is horrible!! Guest guest
Go Zeb! What a ladies man! My 14 year old, typical child, is so shy -even he hasn't had his first kiss yet!!!! Great story and so glad he's found a friend from school. Glad to hear things with your FIL are going well, I know your family is thankful you can do so much for him. Hang in there.
