Ronnie,

You are right about your advice on educating oneself about a drug one is

considering taking.

I think one of the problems with Tylenol is that it is perceived by the

general public as being more benign than it really is. It's not a " bad "

drug and surely helps many people. It's just easier than most drugs to

overdose. The range from therapeutic dose to overdose is relatively

narrow. On top of this, many multi-drug preparations contain Tylenol and

unless people read labels (which they should, but many don't) they can

invite trouble. Also some people seem more sensitive to liver damage. I

once heard a national talk show host make fun of someone trying to commit

suicide with Tylenol. She said, come on, if that person really meant it she

would have used something more potent. Well, I had an acquaintance actually

commit suicide with Tylenol. It was hell. She changed her mind and called

911. There was nothing that could be done because her liver was being

destroyed. They flew her to a major hospital to get a liver transplant, but

died in the helicopter on route. I think they do have some kind of antidote

now that was not available then.

Take care,

Ute

Off topic but since the issue of Tylenol and the liver has come up before, news

says strength of over the counter Tylenol may be reduced and extra strength may

become available only by prescription, due to study showing that a major number

of deaths by liver failure have been due to accidental over ingestion of

Tylenol. One reason is because it is in so many other otc and also prescription

drugs that a person doesn't really know how much they are getting.
