Guest guest
Brave -Mae's Royal appointment http://www.thisissouthdevon.co.uk/news/Brave--Mae-s-Royal-appointment/articl\ e-746081-detail/article.html A NEWTON Abbot youngster who met Prince Harry is encouraging children to enter a national awards. Children's charity WellChild is looking for people to put forward nominations for their 2009 awards. The event celebrates the bravery of the country's seriously ill children and the dedication of their carers. One of last year's winners was Newton Abbot's -Mae Cole who said the event was amazing. She attended the star-studded ceremony in London last year where she had the chance to chat with WellChild Royal Patron Prince Harry at a private meeting before the ceremony began. -Mae, 12, has a condition called Charcot-Marie Tooth Disease (CMT), which affects the nerves of the arms and legs. She also has a very rare genetic disorder called Cherubism which causes her to develop facial tumours. Treatment for the CMT has involved her having to have both legs set in plaster for one week every month for a staggering 10 years in order to try and stretch her tendons. -Mae said: " I had such a lovely time at the awards ceremony and was made to feel like a real star. The memories that I took from the day will last my family and I a lifetime. " The charity would like to hear about people who have made a real difference to sick children by caring above and beyond the call of duty. WellChild also wants to hear about brave children who deserve to be celebrated for their courage in coping with serious illness. To nominate someone for any of the awards visit www.wellchild.org.uk or contact the charity on 0845 458 8171 to request a nomination form. The closing date for all entries is Wednesday, May 20.
