Jim,

Is this just for the doctors curiosity or do you really need it? Will it help

you in anyway or change anything?

I hate to see people have un necessary tests done, especially when pain is

involved.

I refused a nerve biopsy at 17 because I didn't see the point of having it.

I have heard many CMTers say that the biopsy site never feels right again.

Jim:

I had my nerve biopsy back in 2005 and they took the nerve out from above my

left ankle. I was awake during the procedure. The pain medication they gave me

did the job of no pain during the procedure. After a few days or maybe no days,

I can't remember, you notice that the area they did the procedure is very

sensitive even though there is no nerve there. Be careful of anything hitting

that area from falling or anything else striking it. This sensitivity can last

forever...I still am sensitive. On a daily basis you cannot feel anything

different by just doing your daily activiities. The cut is very small and you

can hardly see it.

I had a nerve biopsy in 1985. They did not give me anything for pain and I have

a 2 inch incision scar. It definately hurt me, even though they told me that

elderly people sleep through the procedure (hard to believe unless they were

medicated) Test is used to rule in our rule out. I still do not have a

definative CMT diagnosis, but everything points to it. If you already have EMG

or genetic testing that is showing CMT, do not do this test. I ended up in a lot

of pain, swelling and had to use crutches for several days afterward. Apparantly

this is not normal, but what is anymore!
