Guest guest
Hi Laurie, http://www.icontalk.com/IT-1.html This is the exact product used at the conference I attended. It was Barbara Bloomfield with Icon Talk. She's an SLP in New York. The example she gave was if a child was tearing paper continuosly you would show them the " hands down " picture. These are called " super symbols " . They are large in size 8 " x 8 " . Only a single symbol on each page, concrete in content, quick " fixes " . They include: Hands down, wait, all done, quiet, mouth closed, stand, come here, etc... General Guidelines for Intervention: - Target what " to do " versus what " not to do " IE: Positive behavioral directives. - Use principals of a structured teaching approach and visual supports - Choicemaking Hope this helps. Expore her website a bit. Take care, Jayne nolan wrote: Thats it Jayne, they use the pictures too but most of the time the picture isnt right there. So they model hands on laps. The use monotone voices and no emotion. They tell me its very difficult to keep a straight face with Mic because he sits there and makes faces.(Mr. Personality} At home I cant keep a straight face I walk away.Mic knows the mad face and he does not want to get a mad face either. He puts his hands over his eyes and peeks out with one eye and as if to say " are ya still mad Mom " its so cute everybody cracks up.Thats why I walk away.Trying not to let him see me smiling.Do you have any info on this method I would love to read something about it.I didnt see it anywhere in my search.
