Guest guest
Hi to all - I am a Lyme disease patient who has not been responding to treatment. My Naturopath, who is very mold/Lyme literate suspected a mold exposure so she did an MSH blood level and had me send an ERMI vacuum sample to Micometrics. My MSH was very low and the Satchybotrys high. We found lots of mold under the dishwasher, which was leaking under the kitchen cabinets. Had it all cut out, wood and drywall replaced. The area was sealed off during construction and we were out of the house all week. I understand that we now have to get all the spores and biotoxins off of everything - carpet, furniture, bedding, clothing, books, etc. Can we do this piecemeal - or will that just stir things up? I can't seem to come up with a plan for tackling this that makes sense and is doable. What order should I go in - one room at a time, carpets last? Take everything out, do carpets, put it back. I'm having a hard time thinking this all through. We were hoping to save the money and do it ourselves, but maybe we should hire a mold remediator. In the meantime, I am diffusing Thieves oil, running HEPA filters and taking Chlorestyramine. Any help at all is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your patience while I figure out how to use this site. Guest guest
Hi-It's great to hear that you are prepared to tackle this! Sounds like your attitude and mood are good and that's so important. Here's my 2 cents: Do the carpeting first and don't replace it. Carpets absorb all kinds of toxins and offgas the most terrible toxins. I pulled up all of mine and eventually put down prefinished wood (took a while till I could afford it too but it was the right move.) Get a mask to protect you while you are cleaning up-everyone here can recommend what masks would be good but I seem to need my eyes protected so I go with safety goggles and one that shields my nose and mouth too. The kitchen will need the most cleaning and I'm a big believer in hydrogen peroxide but please listen to everyone's ideas first and do what sounds right to you-remember everyone reacts differently with mold sickness so you are the best judge. It's possible not everything has been affected-if the mold ws just in the kitchen the further rooms may just need a good wiping down. It's hard to know but one sure way is if you feel sick in the room then something is wrong. Trust your instincts on this-no one can tell you what you feel. Good luck! Guest guest
Thanks Surella, yours is the only response I have received. What concentration do you like to use on the hydrogen peroxide? I have made arrangements to have our carpets & furniture cleaned this Thurs. Then I guess we will tackle the clothes, books, bedding, walls, etc. I appreciate any other advice you may have. Thanks! Guest guest
I used pretty much full strength-maybe a little water-I never measured and since the stuff doesn't make me sick I felt better just going all out. Be careful with cleaning the rugs, by the way, the stuff they use makes me really sick and I think I mentioned I pulled up all my carpets. I have one 100% wool rug that does not bother me yet but I'm assuming it will eventually. The best advice I can give you is do all the clean up as fast as you can. It took me a year to make my basement safe and I got sicker and sicker over that year. I didn't know! You can always email me privately. I'm really glad to help-it's no problem. Good luck!
