Guest guest
Good to know.. thanks for clarifying that for me. Good point about off gassing. The decisions coming up are so stressing. I think the AAs are good basic trustworthy machines.. esp the plus with the 15 pounds of carbon. Im not sure the juniors cover the area they say.. we have Jrs in bedrooms and they just seem inadequate.. rooms are about 12X13. I put them near the beds. I'll report back. Thanks, Sam. Robin > > Happy to help Robin. But just to clarify, the mold was not in the hepa but outside on the metal side I think up on the top of the unit. Having bought it second hand, there could have been any number of reasons why it got moldy: > I do have a couple of Austin Airs and find them to be work well and was affordable. One thing to also be careful of is to make sure that whatever air purifier you buy that is does't off-gas. Some can do so via the motors, paint or even the unit itself if made from plastic. Whatever you buy, make sure they are clear about using non-toxic products or being safe for people with mcs as even if you don't have mcs, I'd still recommend something that didn't produce any added issues. > Please do share what you end up getting, > Best,Sam >
Guest guest
I purchased an air purifier from some off these boards one time. When I went to go pick it up I was told that contractor that was working on the property would place them outside for me, when I got there the painter didnt have any idea of what I was talking about but said I could go into the condo and look for them. When I walked into the unit everything was in plastic bags and the furniture had covers on them which should have been a big red flag but I ignored it and continued to search in a closet where i was told the air purifers were. after 20 minutes of looking i started to get really sick after 30 minutes the contractor arrived and brought them from upstairs and i put them in my truck. We started talking and he told me that when they were tearing apart the bathroom (the condo's for sale) the carpet was full of mold, when he told me that i about passed out. not only did i get sick in the condo the air purifiers were now in my truck, i immediately yanked them out and called the person who sold them to me and asked why the hell they would sell me air purifiers from a condo that had mold in it? she said she didnt know anything about the mold but when i explained the contractor told her husband about it she said she'd talk to her husband about it. she called me back and said there was a big misunderstanding and the contractor never saw mold, the reason why they were selling the condo was because something her neighbor was using was bothering her mcs's. never ever buy a used air purifier and certainly don't take one from a wdb to sterile environment. > > > > Hi Robin, > > > > You're welcome- I don't know if you should take them.
