Guest guest
Hi Sally, Most of the portable units are made of fabric that off-gas. I'm in similar situation and have yet to find a portable that doesn't off-gas. If you know someone who is a carpenter you can make your own. But here you'd have to be careful to use non-toxic glues, wood, etc. I think " www.promolife.com " used to and probably still does sell the parts and plans (they don't have the wood and such for the cabinet, but do sell ceramic heaters and the electrical stuff.) I don't have anyone that could build one and can't afford to buy one either. If you ever come across a healthy non-toxic portable, do let me know. Thanks,Sam --- On Sat, 8/21/10, sally braithwaite-marshalll <mustangsally2254@...> wrote: Forgive me if I'm asking something that has been widely accepted for years, but I'm reading about sauna treatments being super effective. Guest guest
Oh, thanks for the warning. I react quickly and very adversely to plastics, so it would not have been a good direction for me. Thanks, Diane! ________________________________ From: dianebolton52 <dianebolton@...> Sent: Sat, August 21, 2010 12:26:46 PM Subject: [] Re: magic potion  If you can tolerate plastics, they sell portable saunas on Ebay but I would not recommend them if you have MCS. Guest guest
propane, butane, even natural gas not healthy to breathe, you need good ventilation and strong fan, a good idea to have carbon monoxide detector too... better option would be a freestanding electric burner, I just bought a waring brand electric 2 burner off amazon, it will offgas a little in the beginning like any new appliance unfortunately, then should be fine, i bought because our new rental has a 4 burner gas range w/huge fan/ light hood overhead that needs to be used w/gas burners going but is loud and right at head/brain level w/strong emf fields, plus my EI son does not need the natural gas exposure. sue v. >Thanks, Sam... > >________________________________ >From: Sam <yaddayadda53@...> > >Sent: Sat, August 21, 2010 1:29:07 PM >Subject: Re: [] Re: portable saunas > > >Hi Sally, >Most of the portable units are made of fabric that off-gas. Guest guest
If you are on the road you can do bath detox. You get in a tub of hot water, as hot as you can tolerate. Add epson salt, baking soda and soak for 20 minutes min. When you get out you will be sweating. Or you cn do Epson one day and BS the other.  http://www.ourlittleplace.com/detox.html God Bless !! dragonflymcs Mayleen ________________________________ From: sally braithwaite-marshalll <mustangsally2254@...> Sent: Sat, August 21, 2010 4:44:19 PM Subject: Re: [] Re: portable saunas  Oh, thanks for the warning. Guest guest
Thanks...I already do Epsom-salt baths every day, as hot as I can tolerate. I used to sweat a lot; since I've become so ill, I don't sweat. Weird. I'll try adding baking soda to my bath. I also swear by charcoal body wash/soap. It has done wonders for strange skin growths I had on my feet that my traditional doctor predicted would require surgery. So...one surgery averted!  ________________________________ From: dragonflymcs <dragonflymcs@...> Sent: Sat, August 21, 2010 6:30:51 PM Subject: Re: [] Re: portable saunas  If you are on the road you can do bath detox. You get in a tub of hot water, as hot as you can tolerate. Add epson salt, baking soda and soak for 20 minutes min. When you get out you will be sweating. Or you cn do Epson one day and BS the other.  http://www.ourlittleplace.com/detox.html God Bless !! dragonflymcs Mayleen
Guest guest
I too used hydogen perxoide baths. I can say when I was doing my baths more frequestly than now I felt much better than I do now. For those who are not familiar with HP there is a 30% avalable you can order and dilute. It has no stabalizers like the one from the stores but must be used with caution since it is much stronger than the store brand. So you do not want to burn yourselves. Guest guest
I am no expert and am one of those who can't yet afford the non-toxic wood saunas that I hope to have some day. I took a look at the site and have some questions for the list members. Is this FIR or some other type of infrared? I've seen some that are called near infrared; is that what this is? And if so, is there any difference between far and near infrared and its therapeutic qualities? Is it safe to use up close? I looked at the FAQ and they recommended in addition to the canvas tent using a vinyl shower curtain. I've no idea which is worse, but can tell you that in the past years there's been recalls on yinyl shower curtains due to excessively high levels of formaldehyde. That recommendation alone makes me concerned about what they know or do not know about toxic products. Also it is hard to tell in the photos exactly what kind of wood is used in the cabinet. It could be an error in the photo, but the wood looks stained which I'm sure would not be good for such high concentrations of heat. It seems like the unit would be safer if it were made with metal components rather that that kind of wood. Thanks,Sam From: listspub <listspub@...> Subject: [] Re: portable saunas Date: Sunday, August 22, 2010, 2:04 AM I use a near infrared light sauna and love how it feels. Its not comfortable.. you sit on a hard stool and rotate, but it feels so good. I have not sauna-ed often and would like to try a regime of 20 minutes a day maybe 5 days a week and see how it goes but, I have to leave it here, esp since it is made of unfnished wood. My sauna is made by Country Ray saunas and no glues.. just poplar wood and the metals used to encase and hold the lights.. the emfs drops off at about less than a foot from the lights. I am looking into this: http://infraredsaunaportable.com/ Its less than half the price of the country ray obviously without the cabinet.. I like the idea of using it in a tub because the sweat can be washed away.. not sure about toxicity of the tub area if using a low VOC shower curtain.. it can be taken down I would think.. not sure. Calling to ask questions after we move. They claim to be chemically aware.. clean of some things. .not sure all things.. not sure if they use glue or if one can be made without glue if so.. The canvas is unfinished.. not sure has formaldehyde or any other chemical.. ?? Robin
