Guest guest
I am looking into the portable Healthy Heat FIR sauna because getting to an actual nontoxic dry heat sauna is proving to be quite difficult and expensive. Please let me know what you think: http://www.needs.com/product/Healthy_Heat_Saunas_Silver_Solace_Portable_Far_Infr\ ared_Sauna/ee_Sauna Thank you;)
Guest guest
Am no expert. But if you have chemical senstivities or are quite ill, you might want to avoid this or at least find a way to see if you can find someone nearby who will at least let you sniff it out and see if there is any off-gassing. I bought one from another supplier who we had ordered other products from in the past. No matter what we did it off-gassed terribly for weeks. The company themselves said that possibly a few days of running the unit for a few hours at a time would help off-gas the unit. We ran it as indicated in a closed room and outside as well. We did this for weeks and no avail. It always smelled like a strong pool liner smell. As you can see with Needs they too mention the off-gassing issues. I would be concerned though what was being released even if it didn't off-gas as the products are cheap synthetics and are all made in China. Guest guest
Clover: I am also a member of a Lyme forum and many have used the portable saunas and are very happy with them. Just take it slow in the beginning if you are extrememly toxic. Sauna helped me more than anything with my mold toxicity. Guest guest
Just my 2 cents worth. I've experienced both a moist sauna & a dry sauna (not infrared, but rather red-hot coals or something like that) at a local club. I found the dry/hot sauna to cause me to feel ughy, like a gritty feeling in my head, but the moist sauna room made me feel a " healthy " feeling. I actually didn't sweat in either room, because my body barely sweats. I do know from having read Hall Cutler, and searches on Onibasu that not everyone can tolerate InfraRed, and that caution is advised. I tend to believe that, because any form of DRY radiation (be it from my computer monitor, or any lighting, no matter the color) can be very very strong, and not necessarily human friendly. Yes, even " natural " sunlight! > > I am looking into the portable Healthy Heat FIR sauna because getting to an actual nontoxic dry heat sauna is proving to be quite difficult and expensive. Guest guest
I have a Heavenly HEat sauna at home, it has an electric heater that you can pour water on to create steam or not, and I also purchased 2 far infrared modules so it can be used as a traditional sauna, far infrared, or both together. It is made of poplar, no glues, no offgassing. Of course mine may now be contaminated by mold from the house, but in any case I like this sauna and it's flexibility to go either way or both (traditional/FIR). sue v. >Just my 2 cents worth. Guest guest
Diane, Were any of these people chemically sensitive? Was there a brand that some found that didn't off-gas? If any of your friends could recommend one I'd sure be interested. Our finances and nomadic existence make it prohibitive to buy a wood unit right now. Guest guest
For steam saunas you need to be mindful of the off-gassing of all sorts of chemicals. Unless the water used is a safe well-water, you are most likely dealing with chlorine, flouride and a host of others chemicals. The hydrating aspect of the moist steam is good at possibly keeping people from getting too dehydrated. Either way, it is important to replenish your fluids and electrolytes. Higher heat dry saunas are not good for some with adrenal fatigue or cardiovascular issues or those who are dehydrated. The latter may be one reason why you enjoy the steam. Don't know enough about emf in fir to comment on that. But my guess is that the hot coal dry units in clubs are about the same with emf as a fir sauna. Key is to find what works best for each person. They all no doubt have value if you can detox safely and not add anything toxic. --- On Tue, 1/19/10, minnimall <minnimall@...> wrote Just my 2 cents worth. Guest guest
Hi D, I'll try and see if I can find it. My concern for you is that like the one at Needs it will off-gas, which I know they say it does. If you do find that, that is not the case, please do let me know. If memory serves I looked around on E-bay as well and could not get an answer or any info about whether or not these fabric made saunas would or would not off-gas. Can't imagine a synthetic fabric that wouldn't off-gas in heat. Best,Sam ************************Sam: I put the information on here awhile back. I sent it to Barb as well.
