It is not always in the child's best interest to give medicines for

everything. The body is trying to clean the toxins out of the system and if

you

stop the natural process then it can backfire on you sometimes. If a child

gone beyond what is considered safe then I'm sure the doctor would have

filtering out the bad stuff and yes we get sick and are miserable for a few

days

but then we are back on the road to recovery and all is well. When we start

taking medicines that change natures course we can cause more problems than

what we had originally. Medicines are great as long as they are taken as

needed and not over used or abused. The BRAT diet has been around longer than

most of us on this list has been around and it actually works, sometimes we are

just to impatient and want a fast fix. While none of us like to see our kids

sick or anyone else for that matter, sometimes just letting it run it's

course is actually doing more than trying to prevent the symptoms. JMHO.

Immodium is really strong. My niece was in HS when she took it for IBS and

then gave her the most undesirable opposite. She ended up taking laxatives

to ease the effect. It became a vicious circle. She was already a grown

teenager at that time, and gives me pause every time my boys get a stomach

bug. I also came from a country where children and babies routinely get

intestinal parasites. That is a diaper from another dimension, let me tell

you. Even then, we were not given Immodium. The clear liquid diet still

accompanies the treatments, ie anti parasitic meds, etc. There must be a

very good reason; just like not giving pain meds for a stomach ache.

That is my unscientific explanation. IMHO.

Imodium slows down peristalsis. But if there is a bad bacteria or virus in

the bowekl, the slower peristalsis will give this bad stuff time to multiply

- causing worse problems.

LEtting a child have the runs and replacing the fluid is the best thought

method at this time to handle those gastric sumptoms.

My gut feeling is take him. The other part says that he might not be

allowed in the court room because he will be seen as a disruption. Remember

that traffic court is not a private trial. There will be lots of other

people there. will you have someone with you to help with Mic?? I know -

that is the issue that there is no one, but to go to court, you might NEED

to find another body.

Laurie, It is hard to say what a judge will ever do. Sometimes

judges can be of the smart ass nature and say something like well

you knew you had a special needs child that depends on you and you

were speeding anyway. I understand you think the judge may be more

lenient or sempathetic but do not be suprised if he is the opposite.

I hope for your sake Laurie everything turns out okay. good luck.

Laurie, I tend to agree with Carol. If Mic would sit there quietly, I

might take him, but the courts are a respected place and no disruptions

expected generally. Good luck with all you have to deal with right now.

Re: opinions

To be honest I'm not sure about taking him to court. It could look like

you

are using him and that can go against you. It all depends on the type of

judge you get and their view points. Since Mic was not with you when you

got

the speeding tickets and you weren't trying to get him to emergency

care,

having Mic there will seem more of a ploy to get sympathy and could

backfire and

that would be one more thing for cps to get their nails into. I

personally

would leave Trisha home if it were me unless it was about her. JMHO.
