Guest guest
Sue, thanks for asking this. I understand you have tried to do what you think you need to but people should not treat pets like things. Pets will not be contaminated forever, because they shed their skin and fur like we shed our skin and longer fur/ hair. There may be circumstances where people have to give up pets but don't give them up due to advise to get rid of 'every thing', because things are: sofas, books, carpet, etc. > > Tug, > > I am so sorry for your loss, but also I am having a hard time > understanding why you felt that you needed to give up your puppy (but I > haven't been reading every post) as she sounded healthy and happy and > you are doing your best to create a clean environment for man and beast. > > I know that the moldrecoveryblogspot family put their pets to sleep > rather than risk cross contamination. > > I personally am having trouble understanding why we should give up our > pets and also people who give us health and happiness benefits.... Guest guest
I could not agree more with you and Sue. Pets are NOT things; they have lives that should be honored and supported, not thrown away. I am shocked to know that anyone would put a non-human animal " to sleep " for fear of cross-contamination. I also feel that Tug acted responsibly (and I'm in no way saying that you implied otherwise) by finding a home (and it sounds like a great situation). I do think that Tug's life has become unstable and animals are deeply affected by that. I would not have wanted the choice to be between dumping the animal at a shelter or keeping her. --- From: barb b w <barb1283@...> Subject: [] Re: my puppy Date: Friday, September 3, 2010, 3:34 AM Sue, thanks for asking this. Guest guest
I know I should not judge why people do what they do but I am having a problem understanding this. I know of about a million animal rescues that would be glad to taken their pet. I just don't understand why they would put a pet to sleep to avoid cross contamination. Isn't this going a bit far or am I missing something?? This just broke my heart and makes no sense at all. I can see giving away a pet to a good family because the pet is making one sick but to have it put down??? I gave up a couple of pets during the height of my mold issue but it was because I was so very sick. I gave them to loving families. I recently got me a puppy because I have been well long enough to know I can deal with a pet now. My little 6 month old Gizmo has bought me so much joy. I just can't see giving him up but if I was to get as ill as I was 3 years ago, I would have to give him up but I would only give him to a family who can love him as much as I. No way would I put him to sleep because I fear cross contamination. No one put me to sleep when I had mold illness due to fear of cross contamination! <SNIP> > > I know that the moldrecoveryblogspot family put their pets to sleep > rather than risk cross contamination. > > I personally am having trouble understanding why we should give up our > pets and also our people who give us health and happiness benefits.... > > > sue v. Guest guest
I absolutly agree 150%. I could have never done such a thing. I was wondering the same thing but just kept my mouth shut. My Angel is still with me and has been for every step. Cheesi is still blind but has adapted just fine as well. Thank you for both your thoughts and letting this be said. I just cant imagine... Guest guest
Interesting-what came first, the chicken or the egg? I think in my case, the mold in my house that made me sick but it wasn't the trigger for the onset of the disease. A million other factors kind of came together and then I was sick. These include: menopause; my very dusty office space with the very bad florescent lighting and the proximity of a carpet factory a few blocks away; my niece moving in and my house being inundated with chemical things like nail polish remover and perfumes;a bunch of other stuff that I don't even remember anymore. It was the perfect storm and then I got sick. In hindsight if I could have stopped any one of these things I might not have become so sick-too late now but not too late to teach and warn my kids I guess. > > I got sick from mold first Id lay in bed with pain and just try to > breathe, As this eased I became very sensitive to chemicals or fragrances > Janet >
Guest guest
I could never ever put down a pet because I thought it would cross contaminate my house. I had a cat for 13 years and gave him to a friend a few years ago because my health wouldnt allow me to keep him. When I gave up Rocky (my cat) I didnt know which was worst, being sick and bed ridden or being completely alone and knowing he wasnt at the foot of my bed like he always was. The only time I got any comfort was knowing that he was in a good home and was with someone who could properly take care of him. The day my friend came and picked him up I had her cut a small lock of his fur off his back and stick it between two pieces of tape and to this day I still carry that tape around with me in my wallet. Two years after I gave Rocky up my friend called and told me Rocky had died in his sleep and that he didnt suffer. I remember it hurt just as much than as the day I had to give him up. > > > I know I should not judge why people do what they do but I am having a problem understanding this. Guest guest
Yes, that is what I meant, that we aren't advocating people getting rid of their pets when people say get rid of everything. At least I have never heard anyone in this group say that. People may need to for other reasons, but a new home for pet may not be a healthy home just because it's not yours. > > I could not agree more with you and Sue. Guest guest
There is also to consider if the pet has suffered exposure, he cannot say what is bothering, hurting and explain what happened in the past. It is a hard dicision to give one even away, then the pet may not get care for his/her symptoms because they new owner does not know. I think it is hard all around but no need to be so cruel as to put one to sleep because of cross contamination issues. God Bless !! dragonflymcs Mayleen ________________________________ From: barb b w <barb1283@...> Sent: Fri, September 3, 2010 7:02:13 PM Subject: [] Re: my puppy  Yes, that is what I meant, that we aren't advocating people getting rid of their pets when people say get rid of everything.
