Guest guest
Several mushroom supps out.. Ive tried to avoid because I am not sure. I didnt realize about the beta glucan until it was brought up here. It seems to be helpful to some people, though. When I have time I may ask the folks about Transfer Pointe who make the beta glucan Ive taken about the toxins. Other supplements are grown off of yeast as well.. are all yeast based supps bad? Isnt some co Q 10 and some enzymes as well. Homemade kefir and kraut grows yeasts.. are these the same as molds? Robin > > > > > > Anyone take this ?? Guest guest
Carl: I agree with everything you said but one. It does not necessarily take a long term exposure. I have seen some people with short term exposure who have become ill. However, most require chronic low level exposure that takes weeks to month. Also, I have seen some deaths of infants (two) and adults (three). My biggest concern is chronic fungal sinusitis which seems to be the norm in the injured. Once the sinuses are involved than there is a direct path into the cranium and its contents. [] Re: Beta - Glucan I have bit my tongue long enough. 1,3-beta-D-glucan is a cell wall polysaccharide shed by fungi into the indoor environment. The compound causes adverse pro-inflammatory response in humans and animals by binding to DEC1 and DEC2 receptors. There is plenty of information in the literature regarding its adverse health effects. We even discussed this in the POA paper listed on ACHEMMIC and Policyholders of America web sites. If you want to take this potentially dangerous compound that is prepared from fungi and mushrooms it is your business. Just how pure is the preparation and have all of the exotoxins and endotoxins associated with fungal cell walls been removed? Contusing to post this information may well lead one down the wrong path of treatment. Guest guest
Nature Plus use to have one. You still have to read their products ingredients because not all of them are free of yeast, mushrooms and etc. Another key factor is to ALWAYS check the expiration dates because out of date products can have mold. I use to keep my supplements in the freezer and take them from there daily. I was very worried about them growing mold and such when I was so sick. I still keep my spices and other dry goods such as corn meal and flour in the freezer because once one is ill with mold, we do tend to think about those things. Guest guest
Thank you Dr Thrasher, I try to ask questions when in doubt and not to assume something is safe just because it says it on the internet. The way it was worded gave me concern, so I asked. In a way I think it was a good thing because others now know NOT to take the stuff.  I am stressing the NOT part to make it obvious to others.   It is very hard to find safer supplements no matter what they are. I do not have a physician to guide me in anything so all I can do is ask,  so I do not make the mistake. I read but it takes time and when your brain is not at it's most functional state it is hard to absorb, retain all the information we need to stay as best we can. God Bless !! dragonflymcs Mayleen
Guest guest
Dr. Thrasher, you pose an important point. I would suggest if you are interested in the answer... to pose the question to Doug Kaufmann himself.( as he was always known to me as being a mold expert, as that is what caused his illness) Or if you feel that you are confident in your opinion... then do nothing. I do not particularly rely on peer reviewed data. I rely on what does or does not work for me. What one person can take, may be entirely different than what another person can tolerate. I always add one thing at a time and determine whether I can tolerate the product and if it does any good for my body. There is so much confusion on every topic that I feel getting a good answer to this question is worth the effort. Perhaps if you don't do it, I will ask. I am so tired of all of the conflicts. The CFS community says that mold toxicity is only a byproduct of a retro virus infection. They are now calling it XGRV, which was formerly known as XMRV. The WPI is currently investigating 4 retro viruses related to CFS. I don't know who is right at this point?? Do you???? I want to believe that mold is at the root of my problem and not a retro virus. I feel I have more of a future than with a retro virus. I know I was exposed to mold, but unless I get tested, I do not know if I have a retro virus. Sometimes I don't want to know. I would prefer to think my illness was entirely mold related. I got the HLA testing and know that I have the dreaded genotype with mold and chemical sensitivity. I know that as a child I was allergic to dust and molds. I know that I was in a school that caused mold toxicity , not once, but twice. I know it was at the root of a problem pregnancy that killed my identical twin girls. We all struggle to find the answers and posing this question is good. Maybe we will get the answer once and for all. In the mid 80's, I was on what is called the mold diet by some. I followed it religiously, along with a few other things. What worked for me is disputed by many medical professionals. But how are you going to argue with success!! To be quite honest, I am so tired of the quest and search for answers that should be known by the medical profession. We live in a medical world similar to the stone/dinosaur age. This camp argues with that camp. We ,as an ill population, don't know what to do or who to turn to. In my quest for health I had a heart attack caused by the Fibro and Fatigue Center. I, for one, would like to have this question answered. I have always wondered, based on my past knowledge, if the mushroom formulas were appropriate. I know what they do for the general population, but am not quite sure whether they are acceptable for our category. BUT I would like to find out, Dr. Thrasher. Guest guest
We should never stimulate pro inflammatory cytokines? I can see avoiding this if all beta glucans are a problem for us or if questionable but possibly there is a role for beta glucans for some people and some conditions. Everything is propaganda in one way or another. Everyone trying to prove they are right or sell something. I get that very well. Robin http://betterwayhealth.com/Beta-Glucan-60-Capsules-500-Mg-Immune-Enhancer.html Mode of Action Beta-1, 3-D glucan works by activating immune cells known as macrophages, neutrophils and natural killer (NK) cells. These are your immune system's first line of innate defense. They are responsible for finding, identifying, and consuming foreign substances in the body. Macrophages also control the activities of other important cells in the immune system. " Because macrophages can be found in almost every organ of our body, including the brain, they are in an ideal position to react. " says Dr. Václav Vtvi ka. Transfer Point uses only Beta glucan derived from baker's yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). According to Dr. L. Blaylock, " the most effective source of Beta 1,3 glucan is from Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the one chosen by most researchers . Purity of the product is vital, since protein contaminants can cause untoward immune reactions. " That's why each lot of our product is certified by independent laboratories for purity and potency. Beta glucan has been proven to be effective when administered orally or intravenously, however, the latter would require daily visits to a physician. When taken orally, the macrophage obtains maximum activity and effectiveness after about 72 hours, then again reaches normal activity after about 144 hours. " As it is a natural substance, there are no side effects and there is no danger of overdose. Clearly Beta Glucan is a natural, safe, specific and highly effective way to keep our immune system healthy. " -Dr. Václav Vtvi ka To maximize the benefits of Beta Glucan, it should always be taken on an empty stomach, with water. Wait at least 30 minutes before eating or drinking. Simple sugars would be broken down in the digestive system, converted into glucose, and used for energy. This does not occur with a complex carbohydrate like Beta Glucan. This polysaccharide is carried across the lining of the small intestine into the lymphatic system via M (microfold) cells in the Peyer's Patches. From the lymphatic system, the Beta Glucan is carried by phagocytes throughout the immune system and bone marrow. This provides for complete systemic activation of your immune system. Transfer Point's Beta Glucan has been researched and documented by some of the most prestigious universities in the world, including: Auburn University Brown University Cornell University University of Louisville University of Minnesota University of Massachusetts North Carolina A & T State University Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center US Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute Defence Research Establishment Suffield, Canada Researchers share comments about our product... " The current study represents the first demonstration that a specific form of Beta 1,3-D glucan can enhance the immune system's ability to kill anthrax spores, and that it can do so orally. " - R. Ostroff, PhD, at the 224th national meeting of the American Chemical Society The U.S Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute Study found that systematic Beta 1,3-D glucan synergizes with cytokine and growth factor stimulation of hemotopoeisis (white blood cell formation) in the bone marrow following myelosupression. Initial preclinical results demonstrate that oral Beta glucan also provides a radiation protective effect. " In one study, oral Beta 1,3 glucan administered alone reduced tumor weight by nearly half. But when used in conjunction with a monoclonal antibody. The average tumor weight shrank by more than 80%. " -Gordon Ross, PhD, University of Louisville School of Medicine The five key immune responses targeted by Beta glucan: Production of white blood cells Cellular mobilization Phagocytic capacity Production of reactive oxygen intermediates Helps shift from an overstimulated Th2 to a Th1 cell mediated immune response. Beta glucan has been shown to directly increase hematopoiesis. Hematopoiesis is the process by which your bone marrow produces stem cells. Stem cells are one of the most vital needs of your immune system, because stem cells ultimately become white blood cells. Specialized types of white blood cells are called phagocytes; these include macrophages, neutrophils, and eosenophils. One function of these phagocytes is to engulf invaders (or any foreign substance) immediately, without question. This process is called phagocytosis. Phagocytosis has also been tested and shown to be enhanced by our Beta glucan. The phagocyte's ability to engulf foreign substances is very important. The faster phagocytosis happens, the more debris the phagocyte can destroy. When a phagocyte digests an invader, it notifies the proper authorities (T cells), to let them know there is a foreign substance present. The T cells decide the best action to pursue in order to relieve the body of this foreign substance. Once the phagocyte presents the debris of the invader, the T cells have one of three options. If the T cell initiates a cell mediated immune response, all phagocytes that have flocked to the site of infection are assisted by other specific white blood cells. This charge of cells is called chemotaxis. Chemotaxis has been tested and shown to be enhanced by our Beta glucan. When the phagocytes reach the site of invasion, they produce reactive oxygen intermediates (ROIs) and reactive nitrogen intermediates (NOIs). These ROIs and NOIs include hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and nitric oxide (NO), and are very important in helping the phagocytes to rapidly destroy the invader. Transfer Point's Beta glucan has been tested and shown to help phagocytes produce more ROIs and NOIs. Therefore, the faster the phagocytes reach the site of invasion, and use ROIs and NOIs, the faster the intruder's position is compromised. However, if the T cell initiates a humoral immune response, B cells are notified to create plasma cells, which create antibodies to fight the infection. These antibodies are actually chemicals designed to tag a specific invader, and take about 21 days to fully develop. When the antibodies are ready, they are sent out to target the specific substance for which they are made. Until these antibodies are ready, it is up to the innate immunity to directly come in contact, hand to hand combat, and ultimately engulf the intrusive substance. Innate immunity is what keeps you alive, until acquired immunity is established. In some cases, a person's immune system programs itself to rely too much on a humoral (antibody) response versus a cell mediated immune response. Transfer Point's Beta glucan has been tested and shown to correct an over-shifted humoral response to a cell mediated immune response. Anecdotal evidence and theory suggest this is helpful in allergies, autoimmune disease, and cancer. " Nothing can take the place of a healthy immune system. When it functions properly, the body has all the ammunition it needs to ward off disease and combat illness. Most diseases are present in the body long before they give any outward manifestations, and are associated with a malfunctioning of the immune system. " -A.J.
