The tests looked at eight courtrooms, staff rooms, and judge's chambers in the older section of the Broward County Courthouse. " This building is clear that is nothing more than band aids in maintenance instead of a system attempt to correct it, " attorney McKee said. " The correct thing to do here is make sure everyone is safe, get them out. " The results come just weeks after Judges Patti Englander Henning, Mily - and Greenhawt requested the testing after the death of fellow judge Cheryl Aleman. Judge Aleman died from an aggressive form of lung cancer. At the time, CBS4 cameras found mold on the walls in the courthouse. According to the attorneys for the plaintiffs, the tests found not only mold, but also bacteria similar to what is found in fecal matter in the air handler in the building. The attorneys suing are preparing to ask a judge to shut down the Broward County Courthouse until it can be made safe. CBS4's Carey Codd asked Broward County Chief Judge Victor Tobin about shutting down the courthouse. Judge Tobin told Codd that he can't close the courthouse based on the report of one expert. Judge Tobin said Broward County will hire its own team to come in and test the building, but didn't have a timetable on when those new tests will be carried out. Funds for a new courthouse have been approved, but construction won't be completed for at least another three years.
