Guest guest
A pinch of sea salt in very warm distilled water and a little Zylitol has worked better for me than salt alone in a Neti Pot. As someone who has had two sinus surgeries performed, that sinus rinse works better than anything else I've ever done. At least once in the morning, and more if I've been outside or around pollen, dust, etc. jp Joe wrote: > You have a somewhat unique, though I'm sure others might benefit from your self-treatment, problem with the nose. I have used a salt solution to wash out my nose/throat for years. Recently I started using XClear which is a Xylitol based product to help my grandson and now me, to " wash out " bacteria from the entire area.......... >
Guest guest
Sinus surgery was recommended to me by, who else, a sinus surgeon. But it took me less than two days to find six people who'd had sinus surgery and for whom it did no good. Now I have a brother-in-law who's had sinus surgery and for whom it did nothing. That makes sense, since I would think surgery would leave scar tissue and wouldn't do the action of the nasal cilia any good. It's a crime that there is scarcely any information to be found on the internet about how generally useless sinus surgery is, and it is also a crime that sinus surgeons keep doing the surgery, given that at least 80 percent of the people on whom they do it do not benefit from it. Guest guest
Hi Tug, I use a neti pot everyday- it works great! I have not had any sinus infections since I have been using it daily. Hope this helps- Val
Guest guest
Thanks for the replies, Im going to try using it now. > > I don't use the neti pot. A few years ago a co-worker told me he and his wife tried the neti pot but did not like it, so the bought the Neil Med plastic bottle. I bought the bottle and have been using it about 3 yrs, so easy to use.  Co-worker does his sinus rinse in the shower, I just bend over the tub, taking a handkerchief with me, and that works out good for me. The Neil Med sinus packets are the only brand I use-- no burning.   The contents are: sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate. You mix warm distilled water with the packet in the plastic bottle. I warm the water in the microwave. >  > The co-worker, his wife, and I all noticed that we don't get sick as often-- do the sinus rinse when we notice the sinuses are affected by the weather, stuff, etc. > .....Corky >
Guest guest
Neti pot usually burns my sinuses so I don't use it. I've used it a few times without that happening. I think it depends on how I make solution and temperature of water and how I use it but I can't figure out the formula. I don't have much trouble with my sinuses though. > > Tug, very, very good idea, you can even make your own solution, I use distilled water and regular canning salt found in the canning section of the grocery store. when you first start, it well burn, probaly, but dont let that stop you. you may hear other idea's on what to use. Guest guest
it still burns with me,off and on. might be more about whats going on up there at the time. I've been meaning to try to figure out the best sea salt, brand and type and try that, might be better ? even the baking soda can bother me sometimes, to drying. I dont use as much at one time as I first did,and not as often. like not a neti pot full, just enough that I know it's rinced out. I usually do once before bedtime, sometimes let it go a few days if I dont fell anything is getting aggervated up there. and I have a small squezze bottle I can take with me for emergency washings. I'm thinking a little aola vera might help with the drying. ? I was going to make me some skin lotion too. > > Neti pot usually burns my sinuses so I don't use it. Guest guest
My father used the Neil Med bottle, for over a year. The amount of mucous and phlegm which he brought out, from his sinuses, was beyond what either of us could ever imagine the human body was capable of holding. He had mold and germs in his sinuses. The dark grey color of the mucous indicated that. Antibiotics and antifungals will only work if you use the Neil Med bottle to flush out the bulk of your sinus infection and mold infestation. This sinus phlegm does not show up on a CT scan of the sinuses. I still have his sinus CT scan saved on my computer. Dad passed away 16 months ago. The CT Scan is too large a file to email. If you would like to get a copy, on a disc, I would happily mail it to you. The Bottle is better than the Neti Pot, as it provides the force that gets the water all the way back into the sinuses. It you are still bringing up phlegm and mucous, after finishing one bottle, it is recommended that you use a second bottle. The water should be lukewarm, NEVER HOT. The proper procedure is to squeeze the bottle into both nostrils [repeated use will teach you the proper force to use] If you are doing it correctly, the mucous and phlegm will COME OUT OF YOUR MOUTH. It is basically a choking process, so have someone standing behind you, holding you, at first, until you get used to the violence of the choking and coughing out process, so that you don't fall down. Do it at THE SINK, not the tub, so that you have something to hold on to. If nothing comes out, repeat the bottle squeeze a few times, as it sometimes takes a few squeezes to loosen the mucous in your sinuses. If nothing continues to cough up, then your sinuses are clean and empty. Repeat this every night, at bedtime, as long as you are still coughing up stuff. If, after a few days, nothing comes up, just use the bottle, as a preventative measure, every few days. If BLOOD COMES UP, stop immediately!!!! Blood should never come up. Guest guest
I don't get any mucus out at all when I use neti pot. I thought the idea was to get allergens and bacteria/mold out. Anyway, I'd hate to get it down in my throat because I'm not good at coughing it up. Some people are. I'd end up swollening it, if anything at all came out. I've never gotten anything out of my nose but then sinus trouble or lung trouble is not wear mold has affected me. I got it through skin lesions, insulation coming down from attic, caused skin to itch and scratching it caused lesions and rash and then into blood stream directly. I also got irritated throat and got some in my eye. My lungs and sinuses appear to be okay. Perhaps particle size was too large to get down into lungs, got caught as it should by mucous membrane. On xray show some fibrous matter in lungs but not much but interesting method. This wouldn't work for me though. I'll take your tip about tap water though. Perhaps the chlorine is water is what is causing pain or I'm using too strong a salt solution. >> > My father used the Neil Med bottle, for over a year. Guest guest
A few years ago, one of the doctors I worked for told me to put a slight amount of vasoline on a Q-tex tip just a little into the nose, and do it when I was going to be upright all day. Works good, I also put it on the outside of the nose when it gets sore from handkerchiefs. it still burns with me,off and on. ............. even the baking soda can bother me sometimes, to drying. .......thinking a little aola vera might help with the drying. ? I was going to make me some skin lotion too.
Guest guest
you know, I have did this a few times, thinks for the reminder. vasoline also helps skin problems, just apply a little to your hands, a little hot water and rub it on the areas. you can take a warm wet washrag and wipe it down afterwards and enough stays on the skin to moisturize. > > it still burns with me,off and on. ............. even the baking soda can bother me sometimes, to drying. .......thinking a little aola vera might help with the drying. ? > I was going to make me some skin lotion too. > > >
