Guest guest
Hi Louise, I use an agency. I can't find US kids that want to work for less than $10.00 per hr. I hire two foreign college students each year. They have J-1 visas. It is a cultural work exchange program. I have one guy from Serbia and one female from Romania this year. They both arrived on Friday. The guy arrived in the am and the girl arrived at midnight. I provide their housing and they stay with me until my fair season is over in October. They understand and are fully aware that I have Zeb and we are all responsible for his safety and well being. I haven't had one student that wasn't receptive to Zeb. I am still getting to know them at this point. I had an event on Monday evening so it was their first time out. It takes time for them to learn the job but I am hopeful that they will be fine. I usually house them in trailers in my yard. I made a deal with the girl, Ioanna, that if she wanted to stay in my spare room in the house she could help me with housework in return for her food. I do not provide meals other unless we are out working. Occassionally if I have a picnic, get a pizza or cook a big meal I will also invite them to eat with us. I bring them to the store and take them to the library to use the computer. Mine is off limits because my business files. In return they become a member of a US family. Most of my previous students correspond with me on a regular basis. It is a wonderful experience for all of us. Charlyne Mom to Zeb 13 DS/OCD/ASD? Guest guest
That really sounds exciting to meet these students and provide them a job, housing and experiences about the US etc. Good for you.
