Guest guest
---From: Tug when I pulled out the last two I turned them over and sure enough there was mold. I had no choice but to take the two boards outside which is where there sitting right now. Beings there wasn't any cutting and I tried very carefully to minimize the contamination is it possible that this house is safe for me to live in WITH THE MOLD GONE there is a good possibility it's ok now, but only you know your level of sensitivity of course. I have experienced many times moldy objects being removed and having no problem once they were gone. I know it's not the same for everyone though. ---or am I screwed and should start looking for someplace else to live? WHY DON'T YOU GIVE it some time to see? You might be pleasantly surprised. ---As long as I stayed upstairs I didnt feel to bad but when I went downstairs I would experience a loss of balance I really dont know what to do now SEE IF YOU STILL KEEP experiencing the loss of balance and other symptoms. If you can repeatedly go to the kitchen now without those symptoms then you have probably solved the problem. Is there a way to air out the kitchen? Use your air filter in there? Create a draft that will pull out the air? I hope you can stay Dave so you don't have to move yet again. anita
Guest guest
Almost the same thing happened to me-mold behind the kitchen sink-same dizzy feelings. I removed the moldy pieces, bleached the hell out of the space and it's ok now. You have to leave a bit of recovery time for these things. There are always lingering after effects and the random mold spore flying around. Clean the whole area super well then give it a couple of weeks to air out and you'll recover. You just can't keep moving! Mold is unavoidable-stay put and fix the problem. Total avoidance is just a theory-in practice and in real life it is very very difficult to achieve! Do detox and take what you would normally after reactions and see how you progress. Hope you feel better soon !!!! Guest guest
I'm so sorry to hear that you will have to move again. Maybe in a month things will have improved where you are? Or if you must move I hope you will find a good place. There have been a lot of good suggestions posted about that and also there are books. I hope it all will help you plus what you have already experienced to find something more lasting. anita ---------------------------------- From: Tug The loss of balance which was my chief complaint is gone but I still have some brain fog and I feel sleepy. Guest guest
Dave-it's almost freaky but a day after I wrote to you, something happened in MY kitchen. There's a damp almost mold smell that I suspect is either the AC (another one bites the dust) or god forbid behind my cabinets or frig again. I've already removed the cabinets twice and I'm sick of it. I got so sick so fast that I'm pretty convinced I'm never going to get any better. Literally-every 3 months for the last couple of years I have had a weird mold explosions in my house or cars. No water damage! Just one day the room is fine the next day I'm throwing out dressers that suddenly have mold in the drawers that bothers me. No water marks or stains-just mold. Freaky. I'm too sick to go mold hunting. But unless I cover everything i the kitchen with aluminum foil I'll suffer. I know it's mold because I have completely lost my appetite, want to cry all the time, and am seriously depressed-it took 2 days to get here! I just want to rip apart my hose and live in a box!!! This is endless. Anyway, just wanted to commissarate. Surella > > The loss of balance which was my chief complaint is gone but I still have some brain fog and I feel sleepy. Guest guest
Hi surella, just wanted to say im sorry this happening to you again. I have seen you post about this a few rimes now. Are you sure there is not a sorce of moisture in your house? It would seem that with mold suddenly appearing and growing in your dressers you must have high humidity or a source of moisture in your home? There has to be some reason why the mold keeps growing. Hope things get better for you very soon. Guest guest
Surella, I'm so sorry to hear about what your going thru but like one of the members suggested are you sure you don't have a water leak somewhere in the house? Is there any way you can have someone check the walls for a possible water leak? I'm sorry it's late, I'm tired and I'm not thinking to clear I'll email you in the morning. Guest guest
Dana-my house is very dry. Sealed shut pretty much maintaining a really excellent 40% humidity level-even in the basement! It's New York City so the winter is not a super high humidity time(except this year!). And that's the problem-I think the crazy weather has affected the AC in the kitchen and I reacted on Sunday/Monday when the weather warmed a bit. I just have NO luck with AC's! Another brand new AC in the garbage. The dresser was just a stupid thing-I think I put a still wet piece of laundry in one the the drawers years ago and voila! one day I react! The dresser is bone dry, the drawers aren't even stained-I can't even figure out which drawer (it's one of 3). And yet the mold is making me sick-I put the dresser in another room and am living without for the moment. I can't throw it out, it's part of the bedroom set I bought when I got married. It's really solid and expensive and nice. What do you think would work? I thought maybe to duct tape the entire interior? I HAVE to save this piece! Guest guest
Hi Surella, I'm VERY happy to hear that your house is well maintained and safe. Im also glad to hear that you know that the dresser was probably contaminated by wet laundry, otherwise it would seem odd and that something else were going on. That is good news!! As for saving the dresser i cant really say what would work? It dpends on your level of sensitivity i guess and ,maybe others could chime in with how they have remediated furniture. Could you replace the panel of wood thats effected? If its on the inside that may not be noticable? I would say that would be a whole lot better than duct taping as you would then remove the effected area which would be much better than covering it. I can relate to what you are saying about not wanting to get rid of the drawers, sentimental things. When i moved i left everything behind which was trying emotionally, especially things relating to relationships family etc. Financially too.. Honestly now i dont really miss anything material at all. I just miss my life and health lol. hopefully though you can remediate and keep the dresser. Maybe isolate it and test it quite a bit before bringing it back into your living environment? Best of luck!! I hope you find something that works!! D ________________________ On 2011-02-11 14:53:44 +1100 surellabaer <surellabaer@...> wrote: > > Dana-my house is very dry. Guest guest
Surella, Paint the inside and other unfinished sides of the drawer with Elmer's Glue (slightly diluted with water for easier applicability). The resin in Elmer's (polyvinylacetate) is the same used in some paints but there is no odor at all. The coating will seal the surface. It leaves a slightly milky film but dries hard. I have even had many clients with MCS use this method to seal the framing (joists and subflooring) in basement ceilings. Guest guest
I get the same feelings (I taste it and the air feels wrong-heavier or maybe a little acrid and metallic?) but in general I find the mold. And it's become a kind of family joke because everyone knows if I say the mold is THERE, I am usually right, even if it's totally illogical. Unfortunately, with experience I can usually pinpoint the mold. Sometimes it takes a week (like this recent problem) sometimes I'm in denial for a few weeks (like this problem!) but I always know. It was the AC and I have covered it with mega heavy duty aluminum foil, which is my go to solution for AC's these days. I just duct tape the foil all around the AC in the house and it really does seal it up. It must be very scary to never find the mold. That hasn't happened to me yet but I suppose odds are it will someday. > > Surrella, I cannot find any mold where I am, nor can I find any water damage. > Not anywhere I can see, find.
