Guest guest
Hi Adriene, Mic is 5 and he regresses alot although the school tells me he didnt lose much this vacation even after weekends at home he has alittle regression. If hes sick he regresses or if hes getting sick he regresses. I think its pretty normal for most kids with autism, I dont think its the ds I could be wrong though. The school district tells me they put Mic in summer program so he doesnt regress as much as he would without going to school. My other post about Mics behavior is him after vacations or illnesses. He slaps himself and other people. We dont rough house much with him anymore because its not acceptable behavior with other kids and hes beginning to hurt me.He grabbed me by the hair at school today and would not let go. He did the samething to his teachers and hes pinching.I have not seen this behavior in along time and after a week or so at school he will get better. If he has a major illness he loses some skills and keeps some, they come back though given enough time. I have seen times when I was sure after after Mics fundo surgery he was never coming back to himself at all I can remembering really getting upset and me and my dh sat down and both cried we thought we lost our Mic.It took awhile but he came back. We do give Mic lots of sensory input. We run him outside and chase him squirt him with the hose is his favorite. I have an indoor swing and we use that for input too. Deep pressure on his feet and arms legs hands he loves.Mic was on a sensory diet for 2 years at school and at home his needs change so we try to change with them.Hope this helps you feel better it took me until this past year to really beable to see and many sleepless nites. There is a sensory group at yahoo I go in every now and agaiin for ideas. Guest guest
Who knows why? Could be any of the things you mentioned ---or none of them. We know that Elie learned to read thru the end of the primer level of readers not once and not in one set of readers, but 3 times in three sets of readers. Then it left - overnite. It has not returned this last time. We found that ESY was best for helping to maintain behavior expectations than to protect learning. Sorry not to be more reassuring.
