this is just my opinion so take it for what it's worth but if they are

spending that much time trying to get him to say one word that could be causing

some of the behavior. I do understand ABA but that sounds like the old ABA and

not the one they currently use now. That would cause me to have behaviors

issues to have some one hound me like that. You try so many trials move on to

something else and then come back to it. That just doesn't make sense to me

to try for 20 mins to say one word. If he is agitated already that would

only help it to escalate in my opinion. Sorry I know my way of thinking is way

off from everyone else's.

If so then mine is too. Personally I think therapists can be more " stubborn "

than our kids.

That was us which is why this particular incident hits home so much. WHY don't

they get it??

One of the coolest techniques I know for getting a kid to say a particular word

that it has been proven CAN be said is to do the imitation request clap your

hands, spin around, touch your head, stick out your tongue, jump up and down,

say " shoe " . 99% of the time this works but it's just too dang much work for a

therapist. They'd rather sit there and hammer away at a kid and accuse him of

being stubborn. grrrrrrrrrr.

The " sock " lady is coming tomorrow AM. Can't wait.

Hi Laurie,

Common sense tells me that any young child would not be too happy with someone

insisting that they say a word that they do not want to for 20 minutes! What's

up with that? I would be slapping and kicking too. I think the evil eye was

worth paying attention to. Those teachers would have had my foot in their mouth.

I have no patience for idiots and less for the so called degreed professionals.

Our kids deserve to have their requests honored and to be treated respectfully.
