Guest guest
a better option than CFL's, if can't buy old incandescent They offer both SAFETY and reduced lifetime costs for electricity consumed and labor costs, THEN he or she SHOULD be looking into the LED drop-in replacement bulbs that: a) consume less than 1/3rd the electricity of any fluorescent tube; last 5-10 times as long as a fluorescent bulb; c) contain NO mercury; d) do NOT require disposal as hazardous waste, e) emit no pulsing UV-containing light; and f) do NOT hum -- the last two characteristics are important because some children with disabilities react negatively to the pulsing and/or the humming of fluorescent fixtures. In addition, they require no ballasts (so all you need do is disconnect the ballasts from the fixtures). Their only overall " drawback " is that their initial costs are higher. They offer longer lifetimes and lower power consumption they save money, reduce maintenance associated labor costs, are much safer , pose no mercury- exposure risk and neither pulse (flicker) NOR hum.
