Need to cleaning AC drip pan

Its hard to believe but my only two year old AC coil drip pan has the feeling of

a fine slime on the bottom. I'm so disgusted since I had this new AC put in

after having an AC taken out that never got dirty or moldy or held water, until

the basement floor shifted and caused the water not to be able to drain out,

held the water and finally overflowed into furnace below before I knew what was

going on. A Lennox, top of the line..with so-to-speak high MERV 16 filter

(*that has an area that lets air bypass unfiltered I recently noticed though),

so no chunks of dirt in AC box at all, but due to the fact it holds water in

drain pan and is ineffective at draining out well, now this 'slime', slightly

organey in color, not black. Furnace/AC service person, who said he had never

seen a cleaner AC box, though put some bleach in there but that seemed to have

done nothing for slime. I CANNOT take AC out. There is no indication it is

mold, feels like a 'biofilm'. The coils themselves are not dirty. I was

considering turning off the AC this weekend as it will be a bit cooler, and

putting an enzymetic liquid cleaner I have and letting it sit in there. I HAVE

TO leave fan on all the time since if I don't AC starts to smell

mildewy...unbelievable really!

Barb: the biofilm is most likely a result of bacterial growth. The most common

bacteria in water are Pseudomonas and Proteus species, which are Gram negative.

However, Gram positive bacteria are most likely present: Streptococcus,

Staphylococcus, and genera of the Actinomyces. Fungi will eventually grow also.
