Guest guest
<< Does Gareth have speech now? If so, what age did his speech develope to alleviate his communication needs? I'm sure that speech makes everything better and easier- but I'm not sure if we will ever get there.>> Hi, Everyone....n...... Gareth talks mostly in 2-4 word sentences....very basic ones to get his point across. He stated 'talking' after he was put on Risperdal at the age of 10. Supposedly, Risperdal and SSRI's have been shown to 'open' the speech pathways. God alone knows why or how, but others have said the same. Even with his speech, Gareth does not express correctly his pain level or even where he hurts. That is an 'autism' feature and I go through a list of ailments I 'think' might be bothering him. Does your throat hurt? Does your ear hurt? He still tells me his ear doesn't hurt but will wake up with the blood and puss on his pillow.......go figure!!! Adam's mom....that does not sound like sleep apnea to me.....that sounds like an asthmatic attack. Even before G's C-Pap machine, he didn't wake up gasping for air. Once a child wakes up, then the 'normal' system takes over. Adam should not be gasping for air while he's awake....does that make sense. Sleep apnea is stopping/slowing breathing while in a deep sleep.....not awake. Just my two cents worth. Take care, Everyone.
