My son is Gareth, 18 y/o, with the DS/autism/OCD dx. We found out when he was 5-6 ish that he was also autistic. The dx sure helped us in rec'ving services and explaining his outbursts and educational needs. We put him on Prozac at age 6 to try and steady the mood swings/anger issues and added Risperdal when he was 10 because he was such a head banger and I didn't want him to end up brain dead. That was a major turn around point for us and we were finally able to 'connect' with our lost boy. We live in near Lancaster, Pa. Take care, Everyone. Guest guest
Maybe we could now be a subgroup!!! We are becoming a demographic of our own. My son Elie is 21 yo with ds/asd. His dx came when he was 12 - after I found Joan and Glenn . We all have similar concerns and issues that are different from the early trails and tribulations of many on our list. Sara - Choose to make lemonade, not complain about the lemons. > >Reply-To: >To: >Subject: Re: Christie,Jane, >Date: Sun, 13 Aug 2006 19:23:28 -0700 (PDT) > >Margaret, > thank you, it is so good to hear from someone else who has a adult ds/ >with autism........thanks and God Bless > > >mfroof@... wrote: > <<Christie from Northern New Jersey ~>> > ><<I am also new I have a ds child who is 24 years old, and we are seeing >the >autism traits coming out full blown.... nancy>> > ><< My husband and I have a 21 >year old daughter who has Down Syndrome and though not officially >diagnosed it appears that she also is autistic. has always had some >of the characteristic traits of autism such as unwillingness to look at >people and aversion to close contact but her pediatrician always dismissed >it as a cognitive issue. jane>> > >Hi, Everyone....Welcome to the group Christie, Jane, and . We need your expertise!!! We need to grow with our kids, they are changing and we are seeking answers now just like we did when we first started out. It doesn't mean we'd leave the group it just means it's time to take the next step. Also look at this way, you know there will always be someone familiar to help you through each phase that you go through just like there is now. It's life, we all have to grow up some day. :-) Carol Trishasmom She isn't typical, She's Trisha!

Guest guest
I was thinking this same thing. I learn so much from your lives, not just the day to day struggle, but the grace in which you live your lives also. I only hope that I can help the babies that are coming along when Jake is older. I also see your need to talk about the Adult topics but I never mind reading about the future. you never know what little thing is going to spark somewhere and make a huge difference.
